broke my merkur safety razor #180

hi folks,

i've been using my first and only safety razor for the past 8 months quite happily. last week, it fell from the sink to the floor, and the screw under the top part of the safety razor separated from the top part. i haven't been able to reassemble it. i'm curious if anyone else has run into this, and if you know how i can repair my merkur.

i've contacted dovo soligen and am waiting for a reply, but i don't know whether this accident will be covered by their warranty.

thanks!

Welcome to B&B!

My condolences regarding your loss, hopefully Merkur will help you out. I've never dropped a razor...yet. *knocks on wood*

Sorry to hear that. A Merkur #180 was the second razor I tried when I returned to DE shaving, and the first that I liked. Let us know how it goes with the warranty. Logically I wouldn't think it would be covered, but sometimes companies are generous with this sort of thing.

i sent another email to anne at merkur, and she responded right away confirming that she's shipping out a replacement part. i guess my first email had gotten lost - i'm glad i sent it again. kudos to merkur! i also learned that they refer to the # 180 as a 23c.

Hey, congrats on getting this resolved. For Merkur to take care of something like this makes good business sense. Glad it worked out so good. :w00t:

That's a problem with Merkur razors, bonding the brass stud shaft to the Zamak cap.
If they mad the entire piece from brass they would have this problem.
One never hears of vintage long stem Old Types having this problem.

i was glad to use my 180 this morning (though the folks at merkur referred to it as a 23C. no matter, i'm glad to have it back.

i also realized, having used the HD and the 180/23C, that i prefer the 180/23C. it's gentler on my face.

i also got to use my new scuttle from dirty bird pottery. it's bigger than i expected, but it is very handsomely made. i'm wondering, though, whether i should have gotten the brush scuttle instead.

Is there someone in particular/an email address to address issues? I'm having massive plating issues(posted picts the other day) and am not sure who to contact.

I also have merkur 180, using for 2 months now, I was just curious about the merkur customer service, so I did emailed them and said i broke my top part that has screw thingy, and , I ask them if i can order one (will pay for it), I got email from a lady after 1 day, and asked my mailing address and said we will ship you for free, I was very surprise by the email and they send me a head for free , I keep it for future , if ever I accidently break the top part , I can use the other one. So just email them and they will send you for free.
