British Aristocrat #66

I see on achim's site that there is the coronation model, as well as the "regular" model. Are there any other variations of the #66? And did they only make them in 1953? They are absolutely gorgeous razors, and the fit and finish on them is hard to beat. How many of you shave regularly with yours, and how do you compare it to your other razors? Lots of questions here, I know, but I have been increasingly curious about these Rhodium beauties!

The No. 66 set was made throughout most of the '50s. The Coronation Sets were special commemorative releases in honor of the crowning of Queen Elizabeth II. In addition to the No. 66 set, they also did special editions of at least the No. 58 and the No. 45 sets. (See the ad below.)

Personally, I like them quite a bit. They're perhaps a bit on the mild side of "medium" -- I don't tend to favor many of Gillette's post-WWII offerings, but the British models from the '50s are some of the last few that I still really enjoy using. And they sure do feel nice in your hand.

I really enjoy the #66 as well, it is a smooth dependable razor that happens to look very nice as well. I find it shaves similar to the Rocket HD, Red Tip, and late 40's Aristocrat.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the info. I almost forgot about the Gold version! Not quite as stunning as the rhodium, but luxurious in its own right.

Does the deluxe version come in both gold and rhodium? Or just gold? There is a nice rhodium #66 on the bay right now, but its advertised as a deluxe. From Mr. Razor's site, it seems like most "deluxe" models from gillette were gold.

I'm watching the one that you're talking about and its certainly not an Aristocrat DeLuxe. Just a very nice rhodium plated Aristocrat #66 set.

I have both an aluminum #66 and a "regular" heavy one - I use them both. I'm partial to the aluminum razor, but that might just be my contrariness. They do seem to be on "the mild side of medium" (well put).
