Breaking in an Omega 40033

This and a Speick shaving stick are going in my dad's Christmas stocking this year. He's never used a shaving brush before, so I figured I should break it in a bit before giving it to him.

First Impressions:
Nice sized knot. It has a ton of backbone. The tips are already reasonably soft once the brush is sufficiently wet. Whips up a very nice lather. The brush is only slightly larger than the 11047, so it would make an excellet travel brush.

It does have a bit of a stink to it, which is what prompted me to break it in before gifting it.

Over all, it looks like a good deal for less than $7

Great knot. My favorite boar knot. I agree fantastic backbone, great for face lathering. Perfect size and very soft tips after a months use. I have used this knot for two years and have only lost 5 hairs or so. Too bad it has a typical Omega cheap plastic handle. You might consider putting a few thick o rings on the handle to make it more comfortable in the hand or consider a rehandle. I rehandled two of these knots for use every day. For $7 the knot is a steal. I have two Semogues that get only occasional use. They have nowhere near the backbone of that knot.

True about the handle. The handle on the the 11047 is so nice that it makes you wonder why they couldn't put something similar on more of their brushes.

You're robbing him of the pleasure of breaking it in? MAN that sucks :sneaky2: :biggrin1:

True, but I wanted to make sure that the brush I gave him was easy to lather with (I've used a few cheap brushes that are not)
and that it didn't smell like pig, or in this case, make everything else in his stocking smell like pig.

+1

I also have the 11047. If they made the 40033 knot with a larger solid acrylic handle of the same quality of the 11047 and priced it at $20, they would have a near perfect boar for face and bowl lathering.

Very nice brush. BTW - Is that a plastic guacamole bowl you are using to whip up your lather??? Pure genius! I've not seen that before, but I'm just a lowly noob and I'm trying to figure out the best non-breakable bowl to use for whipping up some mean lather.

They used to sell them at Dollar Tree 2 for a $1. Best bargain in shaving. I would have posted a link but can't find them on their site. Maybe they still sell them in the store but I haven't frequented the store lately.
