What's new

Brace yourselves: another reformulation

... and this time it is Acca Kappa 1869 tub, my favorite shaving software...

Here is the message I got when I wrote AK asking when it would be back in stock:

Hi Luis,

I just found out that the shave cream is being reformulated to add more
botanical ingredients. We hope to receive the improved formula in late
October.

Thank you!

Let's cross our fingers and hope for the best.

FWIW, the only place I've found it still available (in the US, at least) was here: http://www.spaspa.com/Acca-Kappa-1869-Almond-Shave-Cream-p/3229.htm. (And I've looked a lot!)

Best to all,

I recall reading that Razorock King Louis is very very very very similar to AK (just a different scent).

Even if xxx was 99.9% AdP in essence, Id still would've purchased the AdP cream because I like the jar. I love the presentation of it, I like how amazing it looks and it is arguably the best looking jar for a shaving cream that I've seen. They probably had to pay some designer to design it.

Besides, products are going to be similar in a lot of field as ingredients will be basic for a lot of things, stearic acid vs stearic acid deluxe is the same thing. Toyotas and Lexus, like Ford and Lincoln share a lot of basic parts, the details are the dealbreaker to me, and to millions of people. Pubix OJ tastes just like Tropicana OJ yet a lot ppl still buy the more expensive tropicana. People (usually) work hard for their money and they usually will indulge.

That being said, if I come across xxx some day and it really smells and performs like AdP, I will buy it and fill my AdP tub with it. :p

Oh, and I just made the cella/RR cacao comparisson up.

This thread was about Acca Kappa recently being difficult to find, presumably because it's being reformulated. My post was simply implying that there may be another product currently available that is similar. In fact, the post to which I was referring was made by Joe (Italian Barber/RazoRock) in which he said, in not so many words, that the makers of AK also made the King Louis soap.

My post had nothing to do with cost, or knockoffs, or how people spend their money.

To Jet mets #1 fan.I tracked it down and placed an order,If it was Luis that found it ,kudos on the detective work.I sure could not find it with a search of the usual vendors. It will be nice to own a highly touted cream before it is reformulated.
Claus from Denmark rates it in his top four creams. And Claus is a man of great taste in all this shaving

This is terrifying. Reformulating the tub version of AK 1869 is one of my definitions of the shavepocalypse.

KL and AK are made by the same company... KL is great, IMHO, but seems a bit different (besides scent). For instance, AK seems a little softer, and I think that the lather is a bit different, but the latter might just my impression.

I find AK and KL to be significantly - though not hugely - different. The lather I get from KL is slicker, and that's important when I'm using a straight.

Proraso is one of the few products that actually improved their soap/cream with reformulation. Hopefully AK will do the same.

I do not understand whey "new and improved" is so important in today's world of marketing.

Give me "old and works" any day over "new and improved"

I really don't understand why AK has decided to reformulate a shaving cream which already was an excellent product... I hope that they won't worse the lather, properties or both things... and even won't be an excuse to rise its price, as is a succesfull product well sold in this small world...

Cheers!

Correct, they share the same Artisan soap maker (as the 888 and King Louis)
