What's new

Boy, do I feel stupid!

I was on autopilot this morning, and did something stupid. Maybe it's the excitement over Thanksgiving.

This morning I started my shave with DR Harris Marlborough. I have found the Marlborough to produce a very dry lather, and this morning I was having trouble with it again. I did my first pass with the Marlborough, and really had an unpleasant shave. I still had two more passes to do, and did not want the Marlborough to be involved in that process.

I happened to have a bowl of MWF on my counter, and decided to switch gears. I wiped the remaining Marlborough off my face with a wash cloth, and went to town on the MWF with my brush. Here's where the BIG mistake occured. I decided to face lather with the MWF. HUGE mistake! I scrubbed my face with my MWF laden brush for a good minute. Normally, I have nothing against face lathering. However, face lathering mid-shave: NO.

Note to self: face lathering after having already had a rough first pass is a BAD idea. I think all the scrubbing after already having done a pass with my blade really irritated my skin. It has been five hours since my shave, and my face is stll on fire.

Hopefully others can learn from my mistake!

Thanks for your post. This sounds similar to something my husband did a couple of weeks ago. Ouch!!! Hope your face feels better soon!!!

My experience with Marlborough is the same as yours. Thanks for the tip!

On the other hand, there might be a good side to this too, after all that pain, the chances of anything worse happening to you for the rest of the day is a lot less on average, get well soon, bc

Did you use Pinaud Bay Rum as an after shave splash, too?

Think about it. You're face was already on fire, therefore the marginal increase in heat should have been negligible. :tongue_sm

Harris Lavender and Arlington give me great lathers. The Marlborough seems to dry quickly on my face and I need to keep adding water to the brush.

It was the Marlborough soap. I get a GREAT lather from DR Harris Arlington and DR Harris Lavender. I can't get anything but a dry lather from the Marlborough, though. I got the Marlborough as part of a trade, and it wasn't NIB, but I'd be surprised if anything the previous owner did would have caused a dry lather.

I know, it doesn't make any sense. While I have not done a comparison, I'm guessing the only difference in ingredients between the different Harris soaps is the scent. I have not given up on my Marlborough -- I'm still willing to work with it. I like the scent enough that I might try buying a refill puck NIB, just to make sure I give it a fair shake.

humm thats odd, keep us posted on this.

I love harris lavender and marlborough both give me the same lather just different scents.

Maybe you need to give the soap a light soak to bring it back to life.

My MWF did this to me recently because it wasnt getting used often. I gave it the ol soak with water on top while I showered and bingo was his name O :thumbup1:
