2 miso soup bowls ($5 apiece) and a Colonel Conk bowl. Other bowls I have considered - the 2 tone blue shaving bowl from Westcoastshaving.com that is always out of stock, a Tibetan prayer bowl (1 member here online uses 1; looked darn cool!), and Japanese ceramic bowls.

For nice aesthetics with a great price, miso soup bowls win it for me. $5 for wood grain is hard to beat in my humble opinion.

I just picked up a miso soup bowl today at a thrift store, dark brown exterior and a blue to light blue interior. Not sure about the interior color scheme with lathering but figured for 2.00 it was worth a try, then found similar sized plastic bowls at Target 2 for .99 so now I have some for travel as well. Though I do want to get one of the wooden ones as well.

Here are pics of the two bowls I mentioned I purchased today first the miso soup/rice bowl

Then one of the bowls from the Target 2 pack.

I started DE shaving about a month ago and have tried these 3 bowls. The small green one is from the Van der Hagen basic set, the orange one is a $1.50 bowl from Wal-Mart and the clear is a small Pyrex that I stole from our kitchen. I had pretty good results with all 3 but kinda like the small bowl the best. Then... about a week ago I tried face lathering and BOOM - awesome lather!! I really only have to load the Semogue 2000 with the MWF for about 15-20 seconds and I'm good for plenty of passes.

Now I use the small bowl in the Pyrex as a homemade brush scuttle. It's a nice perk to have that warm brush and lather.

* Just wondering if anyone has used the Dirtybird brush scuttle with a Semogue 2000 - I'm wondering how it fits in there because I am thinking about ordering one for myself *

Used my new Robert Becker scuttle for the first time. I picked it up from Robert last week while I was traveling in San Antonio (really nice guy btw!) which saved shipping and made the $32 price all the better. Replaced the rubber stopper with an old cork I had laying around. I opted for the lid which may help keep the lather warm but in hindsight I might have saved the few $$ and opted not to get it. I used my Frank Shaving Best Badger brush and CO Bigelow creme. Didn't take long to get billowy lather stayed warm and thick for the 3 passes. Tomorrow I will try with soap. While Houston and 100 degree summers may not scream out for a need for warm lather, it does make the shave more comfortable.

Here's a picture Robert sent me...

Well, used Mama Bear Ye Olde Barber Shoppe soap today, with my Semogue 1305 brush. Took seconds to whip up a really nice yogurt lather and a few more seconds to start the lather machine. So the scuttle not only keeps the lather warmer, it also helps make a nice lather faster and easier, both creme and soap.
