What's new

Bourbon,Bourbon,Bourbon

I love cigars but I really dig bourbon. I've had the high dollar stuff and it's really nice, but for my money Evan Williams (black), Ezra Brooks, and Bulliet top my list for best bang for the buck. Give me a reason to try something new for less than $12.00 a pint (375ml). By the way, Cu-Avanna Maduro is an awsome cigar for the price. Yes, I'm a cheap bastid but I knows what I likes.

...Give me a reason to try something new...

Variety is the only answer. One pays a steep price to taste the breadth of flavors that bourbon can exhibit.

However, the value brands in bourbon, of which Evan Williams Black Label is a great example, are so skillfully produced for consistently low prices that no other spirit can come even a little bit close to matching.

If you don't feel the need for variety, then you've got your value to price equation pegged out. Not sure about Oklahoma, but if you lived in Kentucky or several other states and have access to these, you might give them a try: Heaven Hill Bottled in Bond (any version: no age statement, 6yo, 7yo, 10yo), Dant Bottled in Bond, Very Old Barton Bottled in Bond, or Ancient Ancient Age 10yo. Otherwise, you're set.

Roger's named some great deals, but look into these bargains too.

Evan Williams 1783 - $10
Weller 12 - $17
Old Grand-dad 114 - $22
Old Grand-dad Bottle in Bond - $13
Wild Turkey 101 - $15

Someone here mentioned Old Crow. It's been a while, but I remember it as surprisingly good for one that's often the "house" bourbon.

Finally a bourbon thread for the frugal!

Evan and Ezra will always have a place in my cabinet! 2 of the most under appreciated bourbons around.

Bulleit is a favourite of mine too, and the price has just gone down further in Australia, making me a happy chappy. I like Maker's Mark too.

I admit that I REALLY like this bourbon.

Its the cheapest available at my local store here in Vancouver, and its actually not bad. It has a nice vanilla??(or something - sasparilla?) note that I really enjoy. Bulleit is also good.

Heh, one of my favorite things about bourbon is even the "expensive" stuff is still pretty cheap by fine liquor standards. I like a bit of variety and try to keep a number of different bottles on hand of different types and prices. That being said, if you like what you're drinking then by all means continue to enjoy it. :thumbup1:

the aforementioned Maker's Mark is my top selection.
I also highly recommend the Evan Williams Single Barrel. It's usually around $20 for the 750ml bottle, but it's verrrryyyy good :)

for bang for buck, I'd try 1792 Ridgemont Reserve. My local liquor store sells it for $16. Good smooth stuff, certainly palatable straight or with a ice cube or two.
My Personal favorite of bourbon that's a good price is Woodford, Smooth, rather inexpensive, I can find it for anywhere between $25 and $35 a bottle. Good stuff.

$20 for a 750ml bottle:w00t: I gotta get myself to the USA. Nothing that cheap here. Greedy Australian government:mad:

Makers Marks is great, but my preference for "every day" bourbon has recently moved to Woodford Reserve (not sure if that still qualifies as inexpensive).

That said, a bottle of Pappy Van Winkles 20yo Family Reserve is worth the price for special occasions. If you can find it.

+1

I'm a big fan of bourbon and like the Makers of Knob - that being said, I'm also partial to the Turkey and Jack, which I think are pretty darned good for the price and are great for every day sipping or mixing.
