I was able to sneak away this weekend to the ol' tobacco shop and pick me up a nice Savinelli. Not sure what model it was, but it looks quite similar to, according to my googling, a "Roma Sandblast Pipe - 616 Egg". It is also a standing model, which is nice, since now I don't have to buy a stand.
The lady at the shop was quite helpful, and under her guidance, I selected an ounce each of two different blends. One of them is a nice Black Cavendish, and the other is a blend called "Tahiti" which smelled heavenly though I have yet to smoke it, and am not really sure what type of baccy is in it. After the baby went to sleep Saturday evening, I went outside and lit up with the Cavendish blend. My impressions were as follows:
1) Wow, packing this thing correctly is hard! (I have since read and re-read packing techniques).
2) Umm....how many times am I going to have to re-light?
3) Oooh, this tastes sweet!
4) Well, looks like the bowl is done, let me clean it out. Oh goodness...why is there all that unburnt tobacco hidden under there.
and when all was said and done:
5) Oh man...I actually smell better than I did before I lit up. Take that, cigarettes and cigars!
I also liked the sneaky little bit of nicotine that managed to get into my system despite the fact that I didn't inhale.
I made a ton of rookie mistakes, but I will learn and learn until the process is efficient. Also, pics to come soon.
