What's new

Bought another brush today

It's actually identical to one I already have, my favourite badger brush. The seller only had two left so I wanted to get hold of another to keep one as spare for taking on holiday etc.

I often buy two of the same thing once I have found something that I like. Now I can get rid of the horrible boar brush that irritates my skin like nothing else.

Boars can be just as soft. So long as they're not cheap and nasty ones.

The one I'm referring to has given me a nasty rash. The other problem I have with boar brushes is that it is more difficult for me to gage how much water is trapped within the bristles.

The only thing that matters is what works for you.
The fun/annoying thing is finding out what that is.

Yeah, I think I just get on a lot better with badger brushes. I understand that boar brushes do soften up after a while, but my face can't take another dose of that brush. I wouldn't rule out another boar brush in future if I found one that was soft enough.

I started with badger, got a very good one, but sometimes it's way to soft.

Posted the thread so you can see the difference in approach it you want to revisit some time, that's all. I don't keep my brush as wet as those guys, it just doesn't work for me.

Thanks for the link; it was very interesting reading.

I have found that I have to take care to dry out the boar brush as much as I can before using it, otherwise I have too much water. That's one of the things that make it a bit awkward for me.

Just out of curiosity, which brush is it that you so loved that you needed an emergency spare backup of it?

And which is that nasty li'l ol' boar brush?

It's the Men-U boar's brush. Some people like it but it's far too stiff for my skin. Even the rather rubbish Wilkinson Sword shaving brush I still have lying around is better (it works perfectly well; it's just a bit rough and ready for my liking).

You could try a Semogue 830. It'll be way softer than the Wilkinson Sword.

I have some great badger brushes Shavemac 2Band, TGN Finest & extra stuffed GT-3 - Simpsons Best. I use them all.

I also have some great boar brushes & i can say that the Semogue 09LE & 830 have the softest britle ends of any brushes i haved used or have. In fact, if you are looking for any kind of scritch.......dont get these. Folr a badger brush to be as soft it would splay way too much for my liking.

Of course, not all boars are created equal.
