What's new

Bought a new bar/cooler with 4 taps!

This seemed like speakeasy territory to me.

The wife was gone this weekend, she's been onboard with me building a bar in our rec room area. I just scored a bar back cooler with taps on craigslist. picked it up and had it in place before she got home. I think she was almost as excited as i was.

got it cleaned up tonight, old lines pulled off, just need to get some new lines to hook up a keg, i have CO2 and regulator already from homebrewing.

Wow! What a great find! I think 4 taps is the perfect number. You're lucky that she's on board and supportive. I homebrew as well and just have a 2-tap mini-fridge that I converted.

So the big question is...what're you going to put on those taps?

I just started brewing again after a long hiatus. I bought a house a couple years ago, gained the space, lost the time. A few weeks ago I did a pilsner just to try it out again. If I can force carb it in this I'll be much happier than trying to bottle it. That was always an ordeal even when i had help.

PM sent.

Yeah, bottling sucks. Someone once told me that once you start kegging, you feel like you're spending more time brewing and less time cleaning/sanitizing. It's the truth. I have a ton of bottles in my basement that are sitting around unused since I started kegging.

The wife want's to use some of the brew equipment for wine, and I think I'd like to try. Especially if i can get my beers off into the kegs and out of the way it'd be easy enough to do.

I've never made wine but have heard you'll want a few glass carboys at least. I guess you have to constantly rack wine to different vessels to get rid of the sediment, hence the multiple carboys. I'm too impatient to wait for wine to age; beer is much faster.

I've only seen one person do it and they had accumulated an impressive collection of carboys. I like the new plastic ones but I'd hate to buy one for every new batch. It just takes time to accumulate like everything else. I'll just enjoy my latest acquisition for a while and see how lon I can hold off the next one.
