What's new

Bought a Fatboy . . .

Fatboy is my favourite adjustable but not my favourite vintage DE razor. There are good reasons why its so popular, plus its built like a tank. If you already have got 50+ DE shaves in, I would suggest starting on 3, not fiddle with settings too much and work from there as you get more comfortable with it. Enjoy.

Congratulations on your new FatBoy. I love mine and use it more than my other razors. 2 would be a mild setting. I have used mine all the way to 9 but I've realized that it's not necessary to go that aggressive unless you really want to. As you get used to the technique of using an adjustable I'm sure you will want to up the setting. I had been using a 7 or 8 but found I can still get a BBS with the setting at 5 or 6 using Feather blades. Make sure that when you want to change the setting you loosen the TTO knob 1/4 of a turn, make your change, then re-tighten. Some folks will disagree and some agree. I found that when the TTO knob is tight and you try to up the adjuster setting the adjuster has more resistance. With razors of this age I would rather be safe than screw it up.

I just can't stomach the cost of a fatboy yet, but I did order a nice red tip the other day, should hopefully be here sometime soon.

Kona Kruizer has my Fatboy (purchased for $3.00 with a droopy bottom) doing a restoration! I should get her back next week! Fingers crossed! Enjoy!

+1 on starting at 2 or 3 and staying there for awhile.

I liked my fatboy, but I love my slim adjustable. Don't give up on adjustable razors if you find the fatboy isn't for you! Good luck on your shaves :wink2:

Congratulations on your new FatBoy... Make sure that when you want to change the setting you loosen the TTO knob 1/4 of a turn, make your change, then re-tighten...
+1. Also, when you are ready to start shaving and you have closed the top and think you have tightened the knob all the way, give it an extra ¼ turn, which locks the blade. Great razor --- you will enjoy it. Mine seems to like Feathers at about a 5 setting, but each razor and each user is different.

On my fatboys at least, 1or2 will barely shave arm hair, 3 is a nice mild setting. 4-5 would be similar to a superspeed, 6-8 is more like a gillette long comb, and 9 is "autopilot off"

This is the correct stance for shaving with a fatboy on 9...:scared:

I'd go with 4 or 5… i think 2 or 3 is way too mild. I usually choose 7-9 for me... But if you like mild…. :thumbup1:

The more aggressive the better! For me at least. I'm very cavalier so I would turn it to 9, pop in a Feather and go to work.

Apparently it is bad for the mechanism to turn the adjuster with a blade in situ.

My FatBoy Stays at 9 :) So do my Slim and Super Adjustable...

I use Personna "Lab" blue blades though...very smooth and perfectly sharp!

The Fatboy is my favorite adjustable so far. I love the chunky handle! It is all I have used since purchasing it...

The FB is an awesome DE. I have a mind one that I bought some years ago. I don't use it in my regular rotation, but I still love it.
