Bottom fell out of grill.talk me out of a Weber Genesis

My old (hah, 4 years aint old) gas grill rusted through at the bottom so I have a nive view of the ground while cooking.
Reading here, there and everywhere I think I should be spending 700 on a Weber Genesis E310 unless someone can talk me out of it.
It seems to be the most recommended grill out there - any other suggestions?

Also.........

Porcelain-cast iron grates or Stainless?
My porcelain grates always seem to rust through in no time, no matter how careful I am....

Ha! The same thing happened to me last year, but it was most definitely from user neglect. I stored it outside and didn't even have a cover on it 90% of the time.

Can't speak for the recommendation - just wanted you to know you're not alone on having your grill "bottom out."

Yeah- I've got a Weber Genesis that's about 15 yrs old and is still in great shape. Stored in the garage the first 12 years, now it's on the deck with a cover. My only complaint is that the inside of the lid gets a smoke buildup that then peels and wants to fall off onto your food. I guess the original finish is long gone, hence the problem. Otherwise it is a great grill, very even heat, nothing on it rusts out, etc. Font ignitor still works, back quit years ago. (mine is the smaller two burner model- don't think they make it anymore)

I've had a Weber Genesis E-310 for six years now and it looks exactly the same as after the first week I had it, and I keep it outside (covered) all year round in Massachusetts winters. In fact I just cleaned out the under-burner basin for the first time this year and no corrosion or rusting or any hint of developing problems. I got the stainless steel grates and they are still in perfect shape - all I do is use a grill brush before and after grilling.

The E-310 offers a huge amount of grilling space, too (I will grill a decent size pizza on it). There are no bells and whistles, no side-burners, just a rock-solid grill.

I've never had to use Weber's customer service because my grill works perfectly every time. But my dad did and he loves their customer service.

Sorry, can't talk you out of an E-310.

3 Weber recommends in a row.....must be doing something right. (I shoulds known better to than to ask this site to talk me out of a purchase......;) )

I'm a little torn between the Spirit E310 and the Genesis E310. For a couple hundred bucks I get a little larger grilling space and a little larger BTU output?
Is that it, or am I missing something?

Not only will I not talk you out of it, I'll post up pics of my circa 2006 Genesis that will convince you that nothing else will do.

I have a Genesis from about 1994 that a guy gave to me for free. I found parts are readily available so I spent 250 rebuilding and cleaned it up and it was as good as new. That was 5 years ago and it still looks and cooks great. I expect it to last at least another decade or so with minor repair. I also have a Weber kettle that is about 15 years old that looks and works like new. So if you're looking for someone to talk you out of a Weber, I'm the wrong guy.

I have one from 2000. I can still get parts. Works just fine. Some rusting starting, but that's my fault. They make great grills. I would never dream of talking someone out of a weber.

I was faced with a 3rd rebuild on my aluminum cased sunbeam grill a couple of years ago (burners + grates). I started haunting craigslist for a Weber Genisis and came across one that looked in great condition but could not get in touch with the sellers. I persisted and finally got an email about 3 weeks later saying that they were sorry but if I wanted the grill and could get there in the next hour I could take it way for free.... I made it there in 15 minutes.

Fantastic grill that I have used at least once a week for the past 2 years.

The old Sunbeam that did NOT get rebuilt

I just picked up one on craigslist for almost nothing, purchased stainless "Flavor" bars and stainless grates. Should be good for another 20 years.

BTW if you go to BBQparts.com, prices are half of Webers list price on original parts.

I have a 2011 Weber Genesis in the Espresso color. It's my pride and joy - I store it in the garage and absolutely baby it. This thing really cranks out the heat!

Ive had mine (Similar to the picture above but with Gas stub) for 12+yrs. Inside paint did flake off, I just helped it along. My grate is about gone but still works and I'm lazy. Thing works like a champ!

I would highly recommend getting a Primo (similar to a Green Egg). The thing is a tank and when the right wood is used the end product is unbelievable. I got my large one for $600 from a buddy who works on the Home Depot marketing team.

Weber are great. I had mine altered via Weber customer service (Sydney, Australia) to use town gas. Love it.

It's actually cheaper in the long run because you won't be replacing it any time soon.

I have a 1996 Genesis 4000. I replaced burners and grates last year. Somehow, I am still on my original flavorizer bars. At some point it will give out and will be replaced by a new Genesis model. I will get the Genesis over the Spirit. It is a much heavier build as I recall.

While I'm sure the Primo is a great Charcoal grill, it's more than a little differnt from a Gas grill :)
