boozed up my blade

Following another user's advice(I can't find the post anymore) I soaked my razors heads, including blade, in whiskey today.
Just some seconds and the razors came clean and shiny, that would also care for sterilisation to a degree is that right?.
I'm quite happy with this technique as a daily cleanup. (I will keep this small container of booze with my shaving stuff, maybe change it once a couple of months) Anyone else doing this?

I saw that another member does the same thing with Bacardi 151. He keeps a small container of it on his counter.

Not a bad idea, but I wouldn't use anything as expensive as Crown Royal. I would buy the cheap, bottom shelf liquor for something like this.

My wife is actually an estitician so we have a lifetime supply of barbacide. I soak my razors once when I first buy em. After that I don't do much other than use them

Denatured alcohol is much cheaper if that's all you're using it on. I keep a gallon around for paint prep and tin can stove fuel in case the power goes out. (was very valuable when that hurricane killed it for a few days last year)

I use Whiskey because I have reduced my drinking to almost zero, and it's a shame to leave a half bottle waste its life away..But I agree that denatured alcohol would be better.

Silly question, does Barbicide = bleach?

No, Barbicide is not bleach. It is a disinfecting solution that barbers use to sanitize combs, scissors, and other tools of the trade. It will kill most cooties found on stuff, but has been known to cause corrosion and discoloration to items left for a long soak. Its active ingredient is the same as what is used in Scrubbing Bubbles.

Soaking any razor in anything other than soap and water is not good. Bleach removes plating; alcohol (in any form) is corrosive. An alcohol dip, however, displaces moisture and upon air drying causes surface bacteria to die due to dehydration.

So, just like your liver, your razor can benefit from a little nip, but should not be soaked in booze.

I spray mine with 90% iso on occasion. The injector is sprayed every use because I don't use it quite as often as my SS.
