I think the underline Special Reserve is whats throwing me the most and might be them as they did not like that one at all that I got recently !
Both did like the lime bay rum more as do I so that is one reckon
does give me an idea what the other base bay rum would be like also which does not seem as spice clove like as the base VIBR

The dry down on the back of the hand is really good though as far as feel dry down like a pure blend in !
suits not surf shorts maybe ! this was the main road I miss my idea of traffic hahahahh but sometimes helps me when I read ramblings from others and maybe makes me understand myself putting it down with words !

Because from your post here, you should be looking at splashes like La Toja(Spain), Pitralon (Swiss) and Speick (German)So learning what I like is a fun path I reckon

I think its the leather maybe ? But the Pinaud Special reserve I got a bit ago is in my box of misfits for now
the post skin feel is great for sure but the scent I ended up washing the face shortly after and then using the Lime Bay Rum sample he had sent me and was very happy !!!!!

I was never the bar type person more the fishing and working on boats teaching diving daily most my life I think some of the heavier scents like the leathers and Tobacco I think more like the guys in the movie Goodfellas or Joe Pesci in Casino or maybe characters in The Godfather
again just what pops into my head
For fun this was me and the wife from some time ago this was most my life surf shorts and t-shirt only when needed and rubber slippers still kinda the same type person just on mainland now
So maybe I am leaning toward the lighter more natural and citrus fruit or ?
I love Creed aventus clones (only had a sample of the real and loved it) that so far is one of my fav
did get a Colonia clone and to citrus ? Reminds me of lemon cleaner hahaahha
some spices are OK also but they have to go toward light

the learning scents and what I like is new to me in the last 2 years
the Lime Bay Rum gives me a good idea what his other bay rum would be like and I do think that would be better than just the VIBR alone again having your wife say you smell like a Christmas fruit cake when you wear it but she said before it was like I was some old man in India selling spices not that its a bad thing but not me so gain getting away from that heavy !
but my daughter also liked the Lime Bay rum and do think he made a great mix bringing down the spice
the Captains Choice Bay Rum is very much leaf bay smell IMHO I like that but needs a touch of something else ?
while I used to live in the Caribbean also I can say I can sense that more leafy than the spicy im my thoughts of what a Caribbean life is to me

You don’t sound like a leather and smoke or spice kinda guy?
I am the “Will Rogers” of aftershaves. “ I have never met a man (aftershave) I didn’t like.”
If you like a Caribbean type bay rum without spices, Bootlegger’s Perfecto Virginia would be more inline with your personal tastes.
And if you don’t like tobacco scents, just mixing Superior 70 and Master Bay Rums, I’m sure would give you that plain, simple Caribbean type rum that you’re looking for also.

I enjoy Special Reserve, but why waste it using it alone when the glory of El Dorado awaits?
I think because I have not tried the bootleggers and just learning what I like is tough without any background in any of this ? Hope that makes sense why and have gotten so many great input from this place ! And with so many loving them and the idea behind them is very cool !
Again like pizza I would never say its not good as much as that one topping is just not for me with the pinaud Special reserve notes that comes through more so
And the lime bay rum is awesome
will look up that perfecto for sure
Also I just have to give things a solid try having smelled Aqua Velva musk before not a fan at all like NO NO to me !
But then read some stuff about Cremo with bergamot and musk so got some and just love it one of my favs in my small collection so just confused now is it the musk or just certain musks ?

the cremo leather oud and Tom Ford smelling that only at stores ? Those are both leather ? So why those are OK and not the special reserve to me and my nose ? something about that or the combo in it I think is what is doing me in
the other parts of El Dorado are Ok I think its just that special reserve part hahahaha

There are plenty of other members here who do not like the cheaper drugstore aftershaves, no matter how much we mix them. You are definitely not alone.

on that cheaper though I do like most and really my two I use the most are Pinaud Clubman and Old Spice
It’s the Supply Pro adjustable injector. It’s fairly new to me, only the second blade. It’s heavier than the vintage Schick’s that I have. It seems to me to have an ability to adjust to a more aggressive level than the Schick adjustable.
