Boar V Badger

I would have thought that badger hair absorbs/holds more water than a boar bhair yet the boar does seem to take as long if not longer to dry. Is this just the case of the courser hair taking longer to dry rather than actually being more absorbant?

There is a difference between HOLDing water between the bristles, and ABSORBing water within the bristles.

Most likely it is do to the structure of each individual hair, in how they differ between badger and boar.

I never noticed this. I suppose if the boar is very dense this makes sense. I rotate about a dozen brushes so by the time I get back to one particular brush it's had a week or more to fully dry.

Agreed. Boar bristle, along with holding water between the bristles, also absorbs it. In my experience, it definitely takes longer to dry than badger.

I guess I'm lucky in the fact that I live in a SUPER dry enviroment.

Badger brush takes about an hour or two. Boar takes up to 3.

But I also gently (I said Gently!) squeeze out most water from the boar, and lightly shake. Then swipe a few times on a dry towel and hang in its brush holder.

A thing I've noticed is boar brushes look wet for a lot longer, but if you pick it up later in the day and give it a quick brush on your hand you'll find its dry, but the tips have clumped together.

My boar brush is still damp at 9 o'clock in the evening when I shave at 7 or 8 in the morning! This despite a good shake, squeeze, beating against the side of my hand, toweling off, and hanging to dry.

Then again I live in extreme southeastern Virginia, where it's rather humid.

There's a video on YouTube where the tester uses a scientific scale to actually weigh the brushes after soaking and then being squeezed and shaken.

Surprisingly, the boar holds on to more water(absorbs), while the badger picks up more water initially, but releases it. At the end, the boar outweighs the badger.
