Boar Brush

I've been wetshaving off and on for 45 years, using old spice or williams soap. I also have been using a boar brush all of that time. Would a badger brush make that much difference in my lather ?
I also plan to try some of the newer soaps, any suggestions?

I believe any decent brush badger or boar will make a decent lather , the exeption being a boar brush will do a better job on some of the italian soft soaps like Cella. With Proraso , either badger or boar works very well.

I believe a broken boar will provide a better lather than a badger, with less work. There are some major differences in how the two hair hold the water and this is probably the critical factor that, for me, leads to a fantastic lather from boar brushes. I have actually been using badgers for 4 years and even though I have had many boars in that time, it's only recently I started using them on a daily basis and will continue to do so.

My current favourites are: Semogue 1305 and the Omega Premium boar.

It really depends on you. You may actually find the badger brush too soft depending on which one you get. Why not get yourself a new Semogue boar.
Mike's Natural, Mystic Water, and Jabonman soaps are fantastic ones and there are many more. Good luck.

I have both and my Kent BK8 badger makes lather faster and easier, but in the end you end up with the same thing.

I started with a few cheap brushes that were supposed to be boar, didn't like them, so went with a low price badger ...average size, and for a long time, absolutely loved it.

Then decided to get a big badger that was a bit higher in the price range, to see what a better quality would be like, found that it's great, but so big that it's floppy and I can cover half my face with it.

Then decided to try out an Omega (local store) (boar), and since then, I find it hard to use any other now.

The reason: the badgers are great, but compared to the badger, too soft, just no spine to them, I find that I have trouble making them work as well as the boar's now.

I do use my badgers once in a while still for the heck of it, but my go-to is my Omega boar. The other 2 boars I have aren't very good at all, so I do really use them anymore, but are handy for a good facial scrub.

I get a consistently good lather from my Semogue 610 boar and Omega 31064 boar. I have one high end badger, a M&F style 2 size 1, and I struggle to get a good consistent lather with it. The handle is great, the tips feel great, but it just seems like it doesn't want to release the lather. If you have been with a VDH boar this whole time, maybe try a Semogue boar for a change of pace.
