I recently got a Semogue 1470 boar brush, and as it's drying, the bristles kinda clump together into little groups rather than splaying out the way my two badger brushes do. Is this something I should be concerned about?
My boars do this too. The Semogues can take forever to break in (months of daily use), and as they break in the hairs will split and some of this will subside. That said my SOC (my oldest and most broken in boar) still clumps up when used.
It's a feature of boars, they absorb water, whereas badgers repel it until saturated. When you shake a badger brush it loses most of it's water and more or less goes back to its supermodel-like shape.
I shake mine well and then towel dry. They retain their shape when they dry out, but they don't have that uniform bloom badgers have.
