Boar Brush Brands , Coke vs. Pepsi ?

So it seems when searching for a boar brush it's either Omega or Semogue ; any other brands worthy of consideration ?
Just curious .

Coke vs. Pepsi is a very good analogy for deciding on a boar. Forgot about Koh-i-noor brushes which almost gets no mention from this board.

IMO boars are more versatile than badgers or horse.

I only have a Semogue boar brush, but I love it and would highly recommend it. The good thing with boar brushes is they are cheap enough that you could try a few of them from different manufactures for probably less than the cost of a higher end badger brush.

There's certainly many models to choose from between Omega and Semogue and both brands have their fans in this forum .
I will probably purchase from both , and then off to the horse races , (horse hair) !

I think a more apt analogy would be with car manufacturers:
Semogue: Seat
Omega: Fiat

Pepsi is disgusting. :biggrin1:

I would like to throw out that the TGN boar is just about as dense as the Semogue special LE's (the most dense boars out there). It however has more skritchy even after it breaks in fully. I personally feel let down by the density of almost every boar brush out there, so if you want something with a bit more mass to throw at your face look at the TGN.

I dont meant to derail the thread, but since we are talking about brands of boar brushes I have a similar question. And since you boarers are congregated here it made sense to post.

I am a new boar brush user (I got the Omega "Bambino") and I am really enjoying it, but it got me wondering. When it comes to badger there are all these classifications of hair (pure, best, etc). When it comes to boar, no such thing. Is it just because it is the nature of the animal that all of its hair is related equal or is there something else that keeps it from classifying the hair?

Boar hair is classified also. If you look up the Semogue brush chart you will see their classification system for Semogue boar brushes.
I don't know if Omega makes it known what grade of boar hair each of their brushes has.

I was not aware of that, thanks for the info.

There can be a huge difference in the way various boar brushes perform, some are floparoos, some are scrubbers with soft tips. Ive used both the Omegas and Semogues along with vintage American brushes and others. It is fun to check out the options and with boar its a far less costly experience.
