Bluebird blades

Good evening ladies and gentlemen!

I was browsing through old posts from 2015-2016 and read that Bluebirds from Derby was discontinued?
Now I see on RBC's website they have Bluebirds, have they started making the same blades again, or is it new blades from a new factory?

Well, I just searched them and most who have tried them either like them or hate them. Those who hate them compare them to Derby Extras, which most consider to be a horrible blade. That may be a clue as to the origin of Bluebird blades, for what it is worth.

I‘m on my first 100 pack and use them to shave my head. They are way sharper then the absolutely blunt Derby Premiums and the barely acceptable Derby Extras. Top of the line should be Derby Ustas but I have not got hold of them yet. They are easy to procure in Europe for approx. EUR 8.00/100

I know some hate it and others love it, but as always YMMV.
The coating on the bluebirds are chromium-ceramic-platinum-tungsten polymer and for the Extras it only says Stainless steel.
I don't know but the Bluebirds seem to have the same coating as the Derby Premium?
Maybe the same blade with different packaging?

Prisewise it's the same as Derby Extra, I can get a pack of 100 blades for 10 Euros incl shipping to Sweden.

Anyway, the ladies of the house want a new blade that is not as sharp as my Astra SS and Lord Silverstar and I was thinking of Bluebirds

As always, YMMV...
I find Derby Premiums to be both sharp and smooth ;)

Maybe I had duds in my sampler tuck but side by side the result with Extras was way better than with Premiums - comfortable was neither one...

Never the less Bluebirds work well for me. My other blade for headshaving is the Astra SS.

My strongest advice about Bluebirds blades is very simple straight forward answer.

Bluebird is a private label made by the same factory that produces the Derby line.
Bluebirds are made by very thin
steel sheet provided by swedish Sandvik .They are not the best blades to install into razors with Merkur-type heads. But where they truly shine is when installed to razors which clamp
the blade close to it’s edges.
Very sharp ,but at the same time very smooth blade. Can last for many 3-pass shaves ,up to 15 shaves to be more exact.
Much better blades than Ustas.

You can find the same blades under another label also : Concord.
Bluebirds and Concords are the exact same blades !

If you like Nacets ,7o’clock Sharp Edge ,Treet Platinum and
Rubies ,most probably you will like Bluebird/Concord blades also.

Forgot to note that one issue with Bluebirds/Concords is the
not-so-strict QC.It’s not unusual
to find duds and usually it’s not
just a blade or two ,but the whole pack of five. This,or...

I’m almost convinced by now that blades packaged into plastic containers are the ones than most often I’m going to find duds.Maybe the plastic packaging is not so forgiving to blade edges ,like paper is,when
it comes to handling & shipping the product .Bad for the environment ,too .

They are far more expensive in the US, nearly twice the price you say they are in Europe. For that reason alone, I will stick with Astra SP, Gillette Platinums, and Gillette Silver Blue.

Great point! This may explain my experience and why I am not looking to give them another try.

Here in Greece they probably are the cheapest blades available.

Ok for 16.00/100 you can get Personna Platinums and such like.
At 8.00/100 they are priced the same as Astras and I toss them after the second use.

I remember trying a few Bluebirds and they tore my face up every time. It has been several years, but I think I might still have some.

Blades are weird. The machinery in turkey must be completely worn out.

I got some bluebirds about ten years ago, and they were fine. And my skill level wasn’t where it is now.

also, derby extra was a fairly highly regarded blade back then. (It didn’t help that any decent blade was $.50 a piece)

Funny how Derby used to be highly regarded back then. I joined here in 2008 and there was a lot of praise.

My derby extras are probably about that old but I haven't used one in so long. I kinda remember not liking them back then. I definitely remember NOT liking the bluebirds at all.

Well, the Concords I’ve used until now they gave me nothing but great shaves.Few were duds, but most of them were fine.Five Bluebirds that I’ve also used ( both made at the same factory : Azmusebat ,Turkey ) ,
they were also fine .Sharp & smooth.
