What's new

Blast from my past. Brut

I know, a common drug store AS. And to e honest, I don't even know why I bought it. My wife and daughter dragged me to Walgreens for some school supplies, and natch, I wander over to the shaving section. What's that? The one cologne I bought as a teenager, trying without luck to smell like an adult?

I bought it ($6.99), brought it home, and though SWMBO gave it a thumbs up... I shook my head. Yes, a bit like Pinaud Clubman (a faint powder smell), but a sticky feel and where Pinaud seems subtle, the Brut had all the clumsiness of a 17 year old teenage boy with raging hormones. I will try it one to make sure, but a future trade or PIF in the making...

btw, I believe Kroger had the Brut Splash on sale for $4.99. Should have went that route...

To stop the sticky feeling at first apply a little WH on the face first. Works for me.

LOL... well, I used it for the first time today. It wasn't a sticky feeling as yesterday, and while still a bit stronger smelling than I am used to, I must have gotten a bit more used to it. Plus, my wife seems to really like it. So I guess its a keeper.

btw, I do remember those Joe Namath commercials.

I bought some a while back, but finally wore it all day on Monday while I sat in the backyard tending the smoker. I have to say, it faded into a nice fresh scent that lasted all day!

I always enjoyed the bottle--didn't it have a long neck, and a little chain around it or something like that? Haven't used this in ages but I still remember it.

I get the imitation Brut at Dollar General for $1.75 for a 9 fl.oz. bottle. To me, it smells exactly like the real thing.

I've heard a few people mention the Brut knockoff, is this the one called "Macho"? We have that one at the .99 Cent Stores here in Northern California and it stinks to beat high hell, as my Dad used to say.

No, it is not called Macho. It is called "Classic Splash," and, like I said, it smells exactly like Brut. If you like Brut, then it doesn't stink to beat high hell as Dad said.

My local dollar store carries a Brut-like bottle labelled 'Macho' - now, I'm gonna have to go pick some up just to try it!

Good to know. We don't have any Dollar General stores out this way. and I was curious. Funny thing, I always liked Brut, but don't have any. I was checking out their new aftershave the other day, Dominant I believe it's called. Very nice stuff as well, and in a glass bottle.

LOL. As a kid I asked my mom to pick me up some cologne and that's what I got - Brut. I didn't even shave at the time. Good memories.

I used to use it in the early seventies. I simply haven't got the guts to pick up another. :001_unsur Isn't it made by a completely different outfit now?

edit: Fabergé was taken over by Unilever in 1989, and transferred to the Chesebrough-Pond's division in 1989 according to wikipedia.

My wife got the splash for me and I am in love. Just love it. Keep going back to the bathroom to smell it and dab some on. Ahhh money doesn't buy you happiness.
