Blade suggestions for a sample pack

I am going to order myself a few blades to try in my razors and would appreciate some suggestions.

To date I have only used Derby blades as they came with my first razor. Yes, I now have more than one and no, I have not been using them long enough to get through my first 10 blades. Hence the samples.

I don't know why, but I am drawn towards trying out the Gillette 7 O'clock Black. So I will add that. (Can anyone tell me the difference between the different 7 O'clock blades?) Other than these I am unsure. I can say that I have had some pretty good shaves with the Derby blades so far. I have a pretty stiff beard growth IMO and have never really enjoyed shaving. Until now. :001_cool:

Any feedback is greatly received. I like to have a little advice before parting with my hard-earned cash.

The black and permasharp greens are made in India

The yellow, blue, and super stainless greens are made in Russia

Both of the India made 7 O'clock blades are exceptional. The Russian made blades are very good too.

Here are what the two types of green packaged blades look like

I was actually thinking of buying from Razors Direct but I am open to suggestions.

Is anyone aware of any Canadian outlets?

There are other options in Canada as well:

classicedge.ca
italianbarber.com

they both have a very good selection and are in the GTA

Not sure if there are any samplers with Polsilver Super Iridiums in them but pick up a box and you will not be disappointed. They are quite sharp and very smooth. Plus Iridium is the most corrosion resistant metal known to man so they last long and maintain their sharpness for a while. $2.50 a pack on Westcoastshaving.com. Good luck in your adventures!

Dear Mr. Batman,

I would suggest a good variety, maybe 10, even 15 different kinds. Be sure to include some generally highly regarded blades because even though YMMV as they like to say around here it can't hurt to go with some well loved brands. To help you visualize a bit better I'm suggesting something like this.

$blade sampler Nov 21 2012.jpg

5 Gillette Silver Blue (my favourite overall)
10 Feather Hi-Stainless (ultra sharp and wicked)
10 Iridium Super (out of production w/ full cult status)
5 Super-Max Super Platinum (cheap, sharp and super smooth)
7 Gillette 7 O'Clock Super Platinum - black (many say they're the best of the best)
5 Polsilver Super Iridium - the reincarnation of the Iridium Super? (they feel the same to me)
5 Astra Superior Platinum - around $8/100 and a solid performer
5 Perma-Sharp Super - still in the top tier here
10 Rapira - Second tier for me, cheap and totally usable
5 Personna Lab Blue - one more top tier blade. no wax spots which is a bonus
5 Shark Super Stainless
5 Racer
5 Super-Max Blue Diamond
5 Bic Chrome Platinum
5 Personna Platinum

Unfortunately I don't know of any shop that sells a sample pack just like this one. However, if you'd kindly send me your name and address via private message I would like to send you this very bunch of blades to help you get started.
