Blade Recommendations?

I absolutely love Feather blades and I am also happy with the Wilkinson Sword blades that I bough from westcoastshaving (which they no longer carry), but I am looking for a cheaper alternative that will work just as well. Has anyone else had luck with these and found other blades that work well? I purchased a sampler pack when I first began wetshaving, but I had little luck with almost the entire set of blades. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

It depends on what kind of razor you use.

Cheaper blades seem to work best in vintage Gillette razors, while the higher priced ones seem to like Merkur razors. YMMV

I like the Feather blades, too, but like the Red Personna's almost as much, if not more. I'm still learning what works best for me with each razor, but so far, the Red Personnas get high marks from me, regardless of price, and even better that they are a lot less than Feathers.

I find ASCO Orange to be a great blade, they work well in my Gillette's, Lord Smart, Goodfella, etc. A little hard to find but worth the effort I think. I get mine at ShoeBoxShaveShop. Not sure where else they might be available

In a B&B member poll, the Derby and Red Personna ranked as the most popular blades, but I don't think you'd find the Red Personna sharp enough.

That said: Derby, Crystal, Shark, Treet DuraSharp Classic carbon.

Red Personnas are very good. And I think you can get 100 for around $10.

If you like the sharpness of a Feather, then I suggest you check out Kai and Super Iridium blades. Both are sharp and yet a bit smoother than a Feather.

I guess that I have never really known that Red Personnas were so popular. Anyone willing to part with 2 of them?

Yep red personnas are what I have found to be the nicest in my short shaving career. I would glady give you some but shipping two razor blades from New Zealand to the US just doesnt seem right haha

Astra Superior Platinum or Feather!

Gillette 7 o'clock Yellow
Feathers
Gillette 7 o'clock Black
Super Iridiums
BIC (Greece)

Having said that, Derby blades are still great value for three nice shaves apiece.

I know a good Indian exporter who does the Blacks at a reasonable price.

Cheers

Yes, I think that it would be ridiculously expensive to ship from New Zealand. It is the thought that counts. Thanks nonetheless.

I've never heard of Gillette 7 o'clock Black, are they much different than the yellow? Can you get them from US sellers?

blades that i found were a great bargain were the lord stainless. 9-10 cents a blade, 3 comfortable shaves. no where near feather sharp.

The only thing comparable i've tried, was bluebird. I'm absolutely in love with these things, and trying to hoarde them.

I have always wanted to use this analogy. Blades and razors are like guns and ammunition, you never know how it's going to fire until you test it. Same with razors and blades. What works for me is the old FBI load 158 gr LSWCHP and Astra.

I found derbys to be pretty sharp and very smooth, but I guess I got really excited about them and went a little too close which caused razor bumps.

Crystals were just as sharp but no irritation.
