For all those who think the "two and done" crowd are frivalous, I'm having a heck of a time getting two shaves out of a Wilkinson.
Now, I am a headshaver, so I've got considerably more shaving to do than the typical face shaver, but still, it seems like overkill to shave with a new blade everytime. To make matters worse, that old "Mock 3" would last me months, so I'm really puzzled why the Wilkinson isn't lasting 2 shaves.
The Wilkinson will start a first pass on the second shave (i.e. the WTG first pass), but goes downhill fast on the second (XTG) pass. By the time I get to the third (XTG) pass, it's screaming "change me!" Changing the blade, I get a marked improvement. Night and day improvement.
Can I expect more or better results from another blade?
I recently picked up a Weishi 9036 off "the Bay," that came with some Astra SPs. I've been waiting to try them after I finish off my stash of Wilkinsons, but if the expectation is (or should be) that the Astras (or anything else) is going to be a significant improvement, I'm going to be more eager to dump the Wilkinsons and try the Astras (or get a sampler pack to try a bunch of others, as is the usual recommendation here).
Before it's mentioned, it's not the Weishi's fault! I've also got a Gillette non-adjustable TTO from the mid-90s, and get the same blade performance from it as the Weishi. But just in case (and because I do want a better razor than either of these), I've got a Merkur Progress enroute to me as I type this.
