Black 7 O'Clock qualiy issues

Hi Guys. Anyone else have this problem? I have been a big fan of the black 7 o'clocks and have found them sharp enough for my beard. I had purchased some from WCS that are production dated on the box 8/2010. They work great. I was running a bit low on them so a little while ago I ordered a pack of 105 from razors direct. They are dated 7/2012. And they are awful. No quality control. I will have a sharp one. Then the next blade has 2 dull sides. Then the next one will have one sharp side and one dull side. (Like merkur blade dull). I used a new one this morning and it had one mediocre side and the other side was unusable. Ended up finishing the shave by only using one side. I have opened multiple pack of them to check. Anyone else have problems with these. Thanks.

I got 105 from Razor Direct with a date of 05/12

I haven't used any yet but I will in the near future now. Never had a problem before but now you got me thinking I better use one quick.

Thanks for the info Aldershot.....

I have the WCS 8/12 (not 10) blades and based on this I too purchased 105 new ones from razor direct. The big package of 12 boxes of 7 are 5/12 date and three aditional boxes are dated 7/12. I have not tried any of these as yet so I will be looking at this thread carefully and I suppose breaking open new boxes to test.

I hope these are all OK because the black's are the best blade I've used so far.

I've been anointed 7 o'clock Black Quality Control.

Please PM me for postage free address where to send these blades I will inspect them one by one to see what is the problem

I may be able to send you some replacement blades so you don't have to put up with "mediocre unusable blades"

Stock was running low, so I ordered 70 more Blacks via eBay from India. Arrived last week, manufactured 07/2012… So I will test one of those tomorrow, to see if I have a poor batch, too.

Just finished the first shave with a new Gillette Black manufactured 07/2012. As always a superb blade, sharp and smooth. Nothing to complain.

This has been my #1 blade for some time now and I've had the same problem with a recent batch from razors direct myself, will check the date on the blades when I get home.. Odd thing was that I was just talking about the awful shave I got yesterday before finding this thread..

I'm not at home but I believe they are on the back of each box. I've loved the blacks in the past. Just so inconsistent in my new batches. Some are good just like they should be and some are crazy bad.

After reading this, I used a Black blade from Razorsdirect marked 7/12 this am. I used the same setup as yesterday which was a SC New and Pre de Provence (sp?) shave soap. I had just finished my third and last shave with a Polsilver Super Iridium so I'd been used to a very smooth shave and the SC New delivers one of the smoothest shaves of all my razors.

I am happy to report my experience was fine. Nice a smooth and sharp as the Blacks usually are. Which is good because it's part of a batch of 500 I ordered :). I hope it is representative of all of them.

Aldershot, maybe you did get a bad batch or something. If you try a few more and there is no doubt they seem rough maybe check with razors direct and see if they'll swap. I've only had good experience with them. Never had to return anything but I've made numerous orders with them.
