Bigelow annoyance

Razer

About a year ago I bought some C.O.Bigelow Cream - the 147g green tube. I'm happy with the product, but the packaging failed me. The first time I used it, the cap broke. The part that threads onto the tube separated from the larger part that you grip. I can sort of push it on, and it stays in place, but not very well.

Is this just bad luck, or typical? If others have this problem, I will spend my money on something else.

Thanks!

Welcome to B&B!

The cap broke on mine too after a bit, I had to use the tube as quickly as I could so it wouldn't dry. I do enjoy the product.

I've been using the C.O. Bigelow daily for about 1 1/2 years. Haven't broke a cap. I do save a few old caps just in case though.

Has anybody tried extracting all the cream to a tub and using it that way?

First, welcome to B&B to the OP!

I never had a problem with the cap breaking, but I get annoyed with extracting everything from a tube, so I cut it open and squeezed everything into a small tub. It works just fine this way; I just stick a finger-full onto the brush hairs or into my scuttle and lather it up.

I do it all the time and, as a matter of fact, I just finished splooge-ing a large tube into a tub this morning. Although it's not exactly recommended, after I get all the cream into the tub, I (GENTLY!) microwave it to get it to just liquify, then pop it into the freezer until it re-solidifies. This results in a texture somewhere between a cream and a soap, which I enjoy. I also sometimes leave the tub uncovered to let the excess water evaporate out, which results in a thicker, more soaplike product.

Even without all the rest of my peregrinations, though, the cream works just the same from either a tube or a tub.:thumbup1:

Hey Luc, whatever happened to your Proraso shave stick conversion?

I've never had a problem (though the cap can be ridiculously tough to screw on sometimes) but I'd probably just decant into a GoToob or something. As an added bonus, it'd give me a reason to buy a GoToob. :001_smile

It worked well actually. I used it this morning. I guess you would make a soap out of it like Keith did with his 2 tubes of Palmolive shaving cream...

Very cool. Totally missed the conclusion to that thread.

To get back on topic, Razer, turning it into a soap's another thing you could do.

I haven't had a cap break, but I have had a cap or two that refused to follow the threads on the tube. Seems to keep things sealed well enough, but the cap kind of sits there, a bit askew ... somehow that bothers me ... but maybe it's just me.

This very thing happened to my tube of CO Bigelow last night! :cursing:

I ended up cannibalizing a cap from something else in my bathroom. I've never had a cap do this on anything else I've used. They must be cutting corners and thought no one would notice if they used these crappy caps!

Mine just did this a few weeks ago too! I'm on a new tube now, and being very careful to wipe off the threads with a towel after using it each time. I love having the C.O. Bigelow retail option, but they lose major points for the cheap packaging.

Had this happen to me too. I think it's just a mix of getting cream in the threads and then the threads not really working very well with the cap anymore. Eventually you can overtighten the cap on the tube and then it breaks. I got a new tube a while ago and with that one I've tried to be careful to keep the threads clean and not screw on the cap too tight.

I had no idea this was a problem, but will certainly save the caps from the tubes I've got in the cabinet right now. Thanks for the heads up!

This gives me an idea... I'll get back to you all on it soon.
