Bic Disposable Fountain Pen

Made it to the big city today and was checking out Staples for clearance stationary. Didn't find any :thumbdown but this store had Pilot Varsity for the first time and while checking them out I noticed Bic disposable Fountain Pens a little higher up the display. For 2/$5 same price as the Pilot I picked them up. Initial thoughts...as good as the Pilot and a little fatter so more to my liking. The label said broad, but I think it is similar to the Pilot (fine/mediumish). A relatively inexpensive way to introduce/enable others.

Update ...on cheap composition book paper there is some feathering but no worse than the Pilot Varsity. Show through backside but might be unacceptable to some but is similar to Pilot Varsity. I would consider this and the Varsity equivalent pens in performance but the Bic is slightly larger. Price per pen was identical.

Sounds like a good find. I know the struggles you are going through to find your ideal pen. I hope this one brings you closer!

They write really nice. One piece of advice, be gentle if/when you post the cap, they have a tendency to crack the cap if they get pushed down too much on a post. If the cap cracks, it will never seat proper for storage again, and you may as well toss the pen. I did that to two of them before I learned to be more gentle. I like how they write better than the Varsity, and how they feel as well (thicker barrel most likely the reason for that).

In regards to the update in the OP, I haven't used a BIC FP, but I do find that the Pilot Varsity writes fairly wet. I wonder if this is intentional by the manufacturer to highlight the difference between a FP and ballpoint, or if it's just a side effect of being "disposable"...

At least it has a breather hole in the nib. Aesthetically, it drives me crazy, pens without one.

It isn't a real hole. Just a circle stamped on the nib. Perhaps it should have had one but both that I purchased were that way as were both Varsity. The Plumix I have has a real hole.

Final update...It had about the capacity of the Varsity from what I can judge. One more to try out from the 2-pack. The first one tended to skip more than either of the 2 Varsities I wrote with did so unless the second Bic surprises me I would give the edge to the Varsity since they are the same price.
