I totally forgot to post when I received my straight razor - a few weeks ago - so I'm doing it now.
So far it's going pretty well. Stropping isn't as hard as I thought it would be (after I slowed down and watched some videos of how it's done) but it is slightly annoying. I shave most days, and some days I forget to strop my razor before I hop in the shower, so I have to fall back on a DE. I'd say my shaves with my straight have been fairly good. I can get a half-decent shave out of a single pass - not BBS but definitely socially acceptable. When I go for two passes I can get a good shave. Not as close as a DE or shavette, but importantly nowhere near as aggressive towards my nancyboy sensitive skin.
Overall I'm happy and I enjoy the fact that concentrating on a straight shave seems to cleanse the days academic stresses from my mind!
Next on the list to acquire is an actual strop. My belt has a couple nicks from my initial sloppy and amateurish stropping. I'll probably also invest in some way of honing it but that's a whole different matter. If anyone has any good tips on honing on-the-cheap that would be appreciated!
