best way to store your dress shoes?

what's the best way to store your dress shoes to ensure they last a life time? right now I have my Aldens in their shoe bags, in their box in the closet. I'm gonna pick up some of those Woodlore shoe trees from Nordstrom Rack soon but wanted to make sure I wasn't potentially ruining my shoes. should the shoes be:a) stored in closet with shoe trees?b) stored in closet without shoe trees?c) stored in closet in shoe bags with shoe trees?d) stored in closeet without shoe bags without shoe trees?my guess is the point of shoe bags is to keep them free of dust and from getting scuffed while they're stowed away during travel.

I keep shoe trees in my dress shoes all the time and they always look good when I need them. My dress shoes are now over 20 years old and look as new as the day I bought them. It must be stated that I only wear them about 10 times a year though. They are a nice black understated wingtip and I use parade gloss polish on them and they have an almost mirror finish on them now. Keeping them in shoe bags will keep them dust free.

Who wants to put their shoes in a shoe bag every single time they are worn? I say shoe trees + closet is enough. Use the bags for travel.

Now half as wise
On shelves with shoe trees in the closet, except for rarely worn ones, such as summer bucs or formal patent shoes, which are in bags. I wear dress shoes every day, so they never have time to ge dusty.

Buy the highest quality raw cedar shoe trees you can afford.

With my next paycheck I am going to get these:

From the research I did when I started getting Allen Edmonds, shoe trees and bags are fine enough. I keep all of them on a shoe rack in the garage and they've been perfectly fine.

I'd recommend the shoes are allowed to dry naturally in the trees for at least a day before they are stored. Ideally 1 day with trees, then 1 day without, then put the trees back in and store. I'd stay away from bags unless they are high quality so as to avoid a moist micro-climate forming over the months. If you want to go nuts, put a dehumidifier in the closet for 12 hours, with the shoes in trees beside the bags turned inside-out, then put the shoes into the bags right-way round and store in the box.

+1 on with shoe trees. I store my with shoe trees, in the shoe bags (which are cloth), in the shoe boxes, on stacking shelves in my bedroom.

to answer this one....

what is your closet like? do you have boxes for all your shoes?

shoes in boxes are so easy to stack, they are labeled, how much easier do you want? Shoes in bags will not mess up your shoe shine that you worked so hard on. So yeah, that would be the ultimate way to store them. So after you wear them, put the trees in them and let them rest over night, then put them back in the bag and box....call me in 20 years and tell me how thier doing...

I don;t have boxes for my shoes, so I polished them, put shoe trees in them and store them on shelves...period. wipe or brush when i put them on....

I've put them in cloth shoe bags by themselves for quite some time. I had the bags from a set of Ballys that I wore out. Helps keep them clean while avoiding mositure recycling.

Though, having used them before, I prefer to add cedar shoe trees to that setup.

Take the off and let them be for 15 minutes. Insert shoe trees, give them a light buffing with a horsehair brush then into the bag, bag into closet.

Shoe trees always, and in the bags or boxes.

Costco had a nice shoe rack that would hold 9 pair of shoes in boxes, I picked up last year. The shoes in boxes don't need the bags and are easy to identify when you have several pair.

Once you have several pairs boxes are neater looking than shoes in bags on top of each other.
