Best way to clean a red tipped super speed>

I havent yet recieved my red tipped super speed, but I want to get some things clear before it arrives. I want to take care not to remove any of the red paint on the tip when I go to clean all the gunk off this used piece. What is the best way to clean a colored tipped super speed?

I would treat it like any other nickel plated razor except if you find the razor needs polishing, I wouldn't attempt to use any polish on the painted tip.

I generally start the cleaning process with a 5 minute soak of the complete razor in Scrubbing Bubbles. Depending how much soap scum and other gunk may be on it, the SB may need a little help from a soft tooth brush.

After the SB soak and a rinse, then, if it needs it, I use a little Maas metal polish on a soft rag. If necessary you can wrap a soft cloth like a piece of an old tee shirt around a tooth brush to get into the knurling etc.

Personally, my last process is a 10 minute soak in Barbacide. Some folks here don't feel this is needed if you have already used the SB soak, but I still do it.

Tom

Is rubbing alcohol bad for the paint? Also, does the internal TTO mechanism need any oil from time to time? I have some razor oil for an electric...

I don't use alcohol, so I can't say for sure, but I doubt it would attach the paint. I know from experience that the Scrubbing Bubbles and the Barbacide won't harm the paint.

I have many TTO razors in my collection and I have yet to see a need for oil. Some folks on here seem to use it, but I don't. Generally if the TTO doesn't work very smoothly, it is due to a lot of soap scum build-up and oil won't help that.

Tom
