Best Thayer's Aftershave

Who here has tried more than one variety of Thayer's and which one did you like most and why? I'll probably end up buying 2 or 3 anyway but I thought I'd get your opinions first.

I have tried the alcohol based unscented Astringent with Aloe, and the non-alcohol Lavender.
I like both, but prefer the alcohol version for efficacy and the Lavender for scent.
I wish they made Lavender and Rose alcohol versions.

I've used the Toner (no alcohol, fragrance-free) and the Super Hazel (alcohol and eucalyptus, also fragrance-free).

They are very different products. I generally prefer the Toner. It's mild going on, but it feels refreshing, and it seems to be just as effective as the Super atsoothing litle burns, etc. Also, it doesn't feel sticky when it dries, which the Super Hazel sometimes does.

But if you needa little jolt in the morning, the Super hazel is terrific. Very cold and astringent (colder than, for example Proraso balm), but almost no burning sensation. It feels good going on.

Especially at the price, you can't go too far wrong with either one.

Medicated Superhazel all the way. It has a higher alcohol content, though still low at 20%, than the toners which gives it a bit better grade in the nick sealing depatment. The other ingerdients it contains are also very good for healing rash, redness, and other minor injuries, hence "Medicated." I feel it is substantially better than the other Thayers I have tried which was the Aloe Vera astringent.

You will most likely get a varied response in preference here. You may just want to pick up the sampler pack and decide for yourself.

My personal preference is the Alcohol-free variety for its versatility. In that category I prefer the Original scent. The rose and lavender are nice at first but I tired of them by the bottom of the bottle. I'm eying the cucumber next. Good luck on your selection.

Agreed on every point.

I got the sampler from the Thayers site and am very glad I did. The only drawback is the shipping.

anyone here use the Original? How is it compared to other WHs? It's the one I use and I think it's great as a toner & aftershave (I just apply more post shave)

I use the original. I think most posters do. It's superior to the other brands in my findings. Yes, it's a great aftershave. So much so, that in fact I use it in place of an aftershave typically.

I think I've stated enough that I add Peppermint EO (for an extreme cooling sensation! It's superior to Aqua Velva for certain) and Lavender EO (for an added good scent), which simply makes it the best aftershave around.

I picked up the cucumber today (alcohol free). I'll post my thoughts tomorrow after using it. The sampler pack would be nice too.

Do you apply Thayers by dropping a couple shots in your palm? Noob question, but wasn't sure since it's an astringent if people use cotton pads?

In the morning if I use Thayers it as an AS splash. At night on a cotton pad to clean my face before bed. Does a fine job on either count.

I also prefer the Superhazel to what they sell as the AS splash and the lemon, which are the others I have tried.

thanks for the replies guys, sorry but it'll be a bit hard gettin the sampler pack as im from Uk and am buying from e-bay and tehy dont have that listed. I'll get two different ones to save on shipping and compare. I am loving the sound and responses of superhazel though.

The Thayer's AfterShave is the best one IMHO, and I tried all the line-up, followed by the SuperWitchHazel.

I use the Original; I put some in my palm and use it like a splash after the Alum. Very effective and a great value.:thumbup1:

I have both the Lavender and Cucumber in my rotation, and the Lavender scent is far and away the more prominent player. I'd like to try the Medicated and Unscented next.

GNC has the best prices. Often B1G1@50% off, and if you have a GNC Gold Card, you get an additional 20% off of that during the first week of every month.

Thayer's WH is an important part of my grooming routine. I splash in on generously both BEFORE and after I shave. I even put it on after washing my face, on days when I'm not shaving, not just on my beard area, but all over my face, behind the neck, up over the ears, and on the hands up to my elbows. Makes me feel clean and refreshed all over, and it really helps to tone up my skin ... especially those bags we get under the eyes.

Best of all, you can mix Thayer's in a 1:1 ratio with even the strongest of alcohol-based ASL, and it will greatly reduce or even eliminate the burn.
