What's new

Best SWMBO shave-related gift ever?

So last night I come home from a meeting and my SWMBO tells me she has a present for me. To my delight, she whips out a brand new shave bowl set for our bathroom (I have been looking for a decent bowl for a while now, so maybe she just got tired of me using our cereal bowls?). I take this as a sign that she realizes my new obsession is not just a fad!

So in honor of her and all the SWMBOs out there, I figured I'd start a thread sharing the coolest shave-related gift ever given to you by your significant other.

In not so related news, I had my first superlather shave this morning with SliceOfLife's Minteader soap and some proraso shave cream (Thanks again Ian!). Fantastic, I may never go back. Best shave yet. And the bowl was quite nice too :biggrin1:

Cool! We want photos!

My SWMBO hasn't yet bought me any shave related gifts. But I am sure she will, bless her. I have bought her a Edwin Jagger DE86, a EJ Best Badger brush, some TOBS Rose cream and some Boots Rose and Camomile skin balm.

My wife bought my initial setup. At times she can now be heard muttering, "oh, what have I created?"

Attached are some pics of the bowls and today's shave equipment (minus my tweezerman brush). As you can see the bowls themselves are not super special, but they seem to work quite well for my purposes - one for soap, one for lathering. Both have deep sides which catch lather well. They save space by fitting together and are slightly textured on the inside around the circles. I believe they were like $5 at ikea.

More importantly, my SWMBO got them for me! It's nice knowing that she is at least somewhat on board with my shaving obsession. Plus she'll let me keep them out on the counter!

My girlfriend got me a Merkur Slant at the beginning of the year for my birthday and I haven't looked at another razor since.

My wife bought my initial starting shave kit, a Merkur 38c, Body shop brush and aftershave and a sampler pack. This year for my birthday, I got a Dirty Bird 1.5 scuttle from her! :thumbup1:

My wife hasn't gotten me anything. But she does indulge me the extra time I take in the bathroom getting ready for date night.

My wife gave me my first straight razor for our one-year anniversary. Like many other B&B wives, she can often be seen wandering out of the bathroom muttering "what have I done?"

Burt's Bees Bay Rum aftershave balm + apothecary style mug gift set..

fantastic aftershave balm, great mug, used both of them today..

:thumbup1:

(I never mentioned to her how bad the shave soap was.. :thumbdown )

For my birthday a couple of years ago she bought me some CADE aftershave balm. She still laughs about it. Says it was like I received a new car or something. That's the good thing about this hobby, it must be easy to buy us gifts :)

My SWMBO, bless her heart, tried...bought me the Casswell Massey sandalwood soap in wooden bowl and the sandalwood ASB. I ended up grating the soap, then melting two pucks of VDH in a mug and mixing it all together to avoid having to throw it away.

Nothing. Mine knows better, it seems, but she doesn't have a problem with my ADs, which is more than any man should expect.
