Out of the top brands who has the best value for money for a "silvertip" brush? I'm not looking to spend a few hundreds but also want something very very good. Is it possible? What do you guys recommend? who's good and who's expensive for no reason?

http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Silvertip-B...ms=66:2|65:3|39:1|240:1318|301:0|293:1|294:50

in these economic times isn't it easier or more cost effective to buy a cheap (even bore) handle and then replace the bristles with a silvertip knot? saving essentially 100's of $?

Savile Row 3120 silver tip can be had for less than $100 shipped and is great with soaps and creams.

+1 on the Savile Row, although I use a 3824 ($115 before shipping). Rooney's are excellent as well. What are you looking to use it for? Soap or Cream? Bowl or face lathering?

I picked up a Kent BK4 from Auravita.com (which is a UK company), which I like a lot. Not as dense as the Shavemac 177 Silvertip that I also have, but still a fantastic brush. Nice thing is the price on the BK4, which you can get for around 44 GBP (I guess would be aroun $66) shipped. That price may also include VAT, so the actual checkout price may be less by a few bucks.

Check it out here

Do you know yet what your brush preference is? Firm vs. floppy, large vs. small, that sort of thing. For example, I'd say that Vulfix makes a very good value-for-dollar brush, but it's certainly at the floppy end of things.

I agree with Vulfix being on the floppy end. I personally like a little more backbone.

Me too. I'd reach for a Rooney as the best silvertip back-bone-ey brush out there for the dollar spent.

Not floppy for sure. something stiffer

Any rooney in particular?

Although not technically Silvertip, I recommend a custom Shavemac in Finest. 45mm loft, choose the diameter you prefer (21mm?), and pick whatever handle shape and size you like (as long as it's on Shavemac's website). That hair grade is a tremendous value.

I'm a huge Shavemac fan, especially since one has all those customization options, but if you just want a brush off the shelf, don't care if it's terribly unique, and you just have to have Silvertip, I'd say get a Rooney 1/1 in Super. They're a great deal too.

+2 on Savile Row from QED. I have the 3118, which is a great travel brush and a great everyday brush if you like smaller brushes. Savile Row Select silvertips are a terrific value. The smallest of that line is the 20mm for under $60.

In your second-to-last sentence, I think you meant QED Select silvertips, right?
