Best Shaving Brush?

I know different people probably like different brushes but I am new to this whole shaving brush, shaving soap, and safety razor thing. So my question is, what is the most popular or best reviewed brush?

Thanks

You might want to check out the 'review' section of brushes. Also, looking at what is popular on the SOTD thread will give you a good idea...

IMO and FWIW, a Simpson Duke 3 in best, or a Rooney 3/1 in super are hard to argue with. They are both fantastic all around brushes with soaps and creams, and are a good size (not to big, not too small). Slight nod to the Duke.

For me, I think you'll have a hard time beating a Chubby 1 in best. There are a lot of great brushes, but in a desert island scenario, that'd be my choice.

Simple Answer: Rooney 3/1 in Super, for all-around usefulness with a variety of products and methods.

Longer Answer: This is a very loaded question. I'm hard-pressed to call to mind another subject upon which more shavers will disagree than what the "best brush" is. Wherever there are 3 shavers, there are at least 4 opinions on the matter. Probably 5. YMMV greatly within this subject.

What you'll likely get from this thread is a handful of popular standouts, and I would predict that the "Brush Wars" winning Savile Row 3824 will make an appearance, as well as something like a Simpsons Duke 2 or a Kent BK4 or an Edwin Jagger BBB. A few of us will name a Semogue or Omega boar, and so on and so forth. If you're crowd-sourcing your next brush buy, you may consider starting from a perspective of what you like in a brush and how you most frequently use it. In other words, you'll get a narrower range of answers if you ask for "The Best medium-sized, face lathering badger under $75". But maybe you were looking for the king of the hill, in which case - good luck!

There is no "best" brush. It's all personal preference.

My favorite brushes are Rooney Finest, although everyone has their own preferences.

+1 Huntmol.... My favorites TODAY are the Eagle G3 in Best and "56"... although the Milkchurn pops in and my Rudy Vey Faux Eagle and...... well you get the picture

Any Real Silvertip badger, set to the proper loft for the application, with a handle material that can withstand the rigors of the invironment in which they are used.
Is the best brush, the rest is a mental thing,JMO

IMO...there is no right, or wrong answer. You will get a ton of feedback and recommendations, but it highly depends on personal preference. And what works for some may not work for you.

My recommendation is to start with a high value, middle of the road brush...i.e. Rooney 3/1, Simpson Berkley, Simpson Colonel, Edwin Jagger Medium Best Badger. These brushes can be resold easily, if they don't fit your preference; In addition to giving you a good baseline for determining your preference (softer, firmer, denser, etc, etc)

I think that this is perhaps the most highly subjective item in the shaving arsenal. I really like my Simpson LE two bands in Super but my Shavemac D01 brushes are great performers and have found their way to the top of my list of favorite brushes. The term "best brush" is one that I can not easily discern. I have favorites for soaps and for creams and some that are fantastic for both. My suggestion is to try some of the highly recommended brushes and try them. You will find great brushes in a variety of price ranges and hair. If you are fortunate enough to obtain several brushes, enjoy each of them for their individual beneficial characteristics.

Best regards,

Doug

This thread will increase in length, but a single best answer will not emerge. You could spend hours reading reviews, and this forum has numerous excellent reviews. But you may end up with the realization that people that spend a good deal of money on a brush are often very happy with it and happy to post a positive review.

I say, decide what your budget is, then select one of the fine brushes already mentioned in this thread based on budget and gestalt. You can't go wrong with some of the brushes already mentioned, and most could satisfy your needs for many, many years. In the end, you're going to need to use a brush to know what you like about it.

Actually, in the end, you are going to be hooked on wet shaving, and you'll buy a ridiculous number of brushes because you won't be able to resist the temptation. Then you'll know what you like about a particular brush.

There are hundreds of brushes out there and thousands of members on B&B. Asking what is the best brush is like asking what do you like best to eat.

I would recommend reading the reviews and various threads and try some brushes. It's a hit-and-miss thing but eventually you will develope a pattern based on your needs.

Personally I like boars. They are relatively inexpensive and with a little bit of work can give you a great brush. Badgers on the other hand can give you instant gratification.

It comes down to 'whatever floats your cheerios'.

i can almost guarantee that as your progress down the road of your shaving interests, your personal definition of what constitutes a best brush will change and evolve over time.

my advice is to start with a solid basic brush until experience brings your priorities to the surface.

a simpsons colonel 2XL in best, a rooney 3/1 in super are solid, popular choices...but there are others.
