Best scent for when meeting new people

I'm thinking night out for drinks lets say w/ casual friends or as part of business meeting (not a interview...not that thread again lol).
What would you wear to not offend, to impress and maybe even get a compliment, and feel confident yourself.

I am kind of in this situation tonight.
I thought which would fit best from my collection.

My choice tonight will probably be Creed Millesime Imperial.

Other options would have been Bleecker St, Dior Homme, Red Vetyver/TdH, Midnight in Paris, Windsor.

I have none nor smelled any of your choices. But I have wanted to try creed as I have read many things about it. No matter what your choice. Have fun;)
Cheers

I wouldn't care ... anything that is not too much present would be perfectly fine.

The only thing people notice is when you used too much of a product.

That's a really good point about not overdoing it.

I ended up going 3 sprays of MI. I felt confident, knew I smelled great, and knew I wouldn't garner negative vibes from people wearing it.
Love MI for this weather!

I'd have gone with MI or Windsor. good choice.

Admittedly I'm a relative newbie and certainly not a frag geek.
But from my limited exposure, the Brit fragrances are *generally* more subtle and refrained compared to the French and Italian fragrances, that *seem* to be more assertive.
As you can tell, I have enjoyed most of the Penhaligons; also Harris' Arlington. Truefitt & Hill's are a close second. I've not explored Trumper's or Taylors to any extent so far; a future adventure!
Best advice...get a variety of samples and decide for yourself!

I used to wear this when I was younger. It was a nice scent, but I have decided to go "neutral" since a few years.

For a business meeting I would probably use Green Irish Tweed or MI.

Casual I will usually use Aventus, Neroli Portofino or AdP.

What's needed is something that will stay close to the body and not overwhelm people. Scents can be long-lasting while still remaining close to the body. Seems to me that's a key attribute. After that comes a scent that most would find pleasing, or at least not offensive.

This x1000. Don't be "cologne guy," if you want to impress people it should be your personality not your choice in fragrance.

I think a good, general, rule of thumb is if someone who is not hugging, or standing so close next to you that you're touching, mentions your fragrance you're wearing too much.

As for what scent the OP should wear, whatever you like the most, don't overthink it or you'll be second guessing your choice all night. Pick something, spray (or dab) it on and go with it. After all, it's just a fragrance...

If one is going to wear scent - then wearing so little that it is barely noticed makes a statement about one's personality.
Better to go scent free than to make a dud scent statement.

All that money down the drain you all are wasting! I go to my true six shooter. OSO and a little bit of Brylcream ! Have nice dayJim

If your personality tends toward the bold, then Knize Ten or Aventus, judiciously applied as they can both be strong -you want to smell good, and let the people closest to you know you smell good, but not fumigate the table. They're both masculine, serious, and smell great.

If "inoffensive" is the key, GIT, MI, or perhaps something like Bleu de Chanel or Platinum Egoiste.

Scents should be enjoyed by you and those that are special to you. It should be a warm embrace to a loved one not a punch in the nose to a random stranger.

While I can well imagine not everyone liking acqua di parma colonia (original) it's also hard to imagine anyone who would find it offensive in any way, and while it lasts quite a while it is not at all overpowering.

Sounds romantic - shame some other self confident guy wearing lots of scent will be doing most of the romancing.
Anyhow, that's the case where I live, it may differ where you live.
