Best protecting and moisterizing soap/cream? Or best soap overall?

Dear shavers,

Laterly a serious case of ssad has gotten to me. In the past i've tried Speick cream (got a headache from it), Proraso soap and cream (liked it very much), Honeybee Spa soap (very good and nice scent), Vergulde Hand soap (mediocre shave), Gilette cream (boy what a smell pff) and Palmolive cream (little lather and awful smell). With different results. Now i now i overall prefer pucks of soap and therefor, i started searching for the best soaps. I've got Proraso soap now, Tabac and L'occitane cream. I'm going to add the Musgo Real cream!

Now, i would appreciate your opinions of what the best protecting and moisterizing soaps? Overall best soaps that you rate are also welcomel offcourse! I've searched the review section, but almost all soaps get an A+rating, lol! Oh, and if it matters; i've got fairly oily skin.
Thanks in advance and have a nice day!

I use a Palmolive shave stick every day and I find it is much less likely to dry my skin than other soaps. In order to prevent my skin from being dry, I also scrub it with a facecloth in the morning (using just water) and use moisturising cream after I put on aftershave when I have shaved and often at night before I got to sleep.

I used creams exclusively until early this year when I received a stick of Arko with an order of 100 Derby blades. I was blown away by how much I liked this soap and, since then, SSAD has kicked in in a big way. I have tried eleven different soaps so far. Several haven't found a way into regular rotation; notably a couple of C&E and Classic Shaving Brand soaps. Two stand out as my favorites; MWF and AoS Sandalwood.

The best soaps I have found have all been French. And he best French soap I've found has to be Institut Karite. Man, that stuff is GOOD. I love the way it smells, I love the way it lathers, I love how it shaves, and I love how it leaves my face feeling.

IK + an Omega boar brush = shave soap heaven. :tongue_sm:tongue_sm:tongue_sm

Speick shave soap works great for me too. I'm surprised it set you off. The scent of the stick is VERY mild, especially compared to the cream. However being a migraineur myself, I find my headaches triggered by scents others hardly notice.

Cella, Crema Sapone Extra Extra Purissima. It is, in my opinion, the finest shaving soap available anywhere, at any price. And my number 1 choice, always.:thumbup1:

Modern Williams soap is as luxurious, and long lasting a lather as you're likely to find, it even has the votes to prove it.

Czech & Speake (overall)

Where can someone purchase this Czech & Speake at a reasonable price.I have seen it for sale somewhere but I cannot remember where, but from what I remember the price was outrageously high.

I will throw out the name Tabula Rasa.It is the most moisturizing cream/soap I have ever used.

+1 I Finally picked me up a tub of Cella and gave it a run last night. Wonderful soap that has made it into my rotation. I'm glad I listened to everyone and picked it up when I did. The price is right also!

Tabula Rasa is great stuff. It leaves my face feeling the most wonderful of any cream/soap I've tried. I got a sample from a WTB and am deciding now if I want to plunk down the $$ for a full tub. Great stuff though.

For soaps, can't go wrong with Cella, MWF, or Valobra (same as AOS except cheaper).

Cambridge Chemists has the refills for $36. About as cheap as you'll find.

Worth every penny IMO.

The Body Shop Maca Root is the most moist cream I have used. Great shaves!! Some people are sensitive to it.

Is Cella okay stored with no lid, e.g. in an Old Spice mug?

I've seen a lot of debate lately on "how to properly store Cella". I've been using Cella for 15 years now and never had storing problems with this fabulous soap. I simply mold the quantity I need in a soap container with an hermetic lid and keep this container away from humidity, heat and direct sunlight. The unused kilo brick is kept sealed in a plastic bag, just closed in the bathroom's cabinet. Again protected from humidity, heat and direct sunlight. Easy, quick and effective.:001_smile:wink2::thumbup1:

My main concern was that it may dry out with no lid. I already own the small red tub but am wanting to buy the 1KG block then cut chunks off for my Old Spice mug.

Cella, Crema Sapone Extra Extra Purissima (1 Kg block) is a preservative free soap and has been produced this way since 1899. I would NOT suggest keeping it without a lid.

Right now I rotate between Pre de Provence and Cella. Here are my quick observations on both (I face lather):

Pre de Provence
- very slick, the razor just glides accross my skin:thumbup1:
- needs time, about a minute, to load brush
- there was a bit of a learning curve with how to produce an excellent lather
- nice faint scent that does not linger
- face feels fresh and well conditioned after the shave.

Cella
- not as slick as PdP, this would be it's one draw back
- lathers almost instantaneously
- lather is extremely thick
- the best cushioning of any soap or cream I have tried
- scent is soapy, I don't smell the almonds
- gives a very close shave, but leaves face drier than PdP
