Best or SuperBand2

I need opinions please. I searched and found some things, but I need all the opinions i can get. Is it worth the money to get a superband2 or better served to get a best?????? :001_unsur:001_unsur:001_unsur:001_unsur:001_unsur

Flip a coin, cause you are gonna get some polar opposite opinions on this one.....Personally I'd say get a 2 band first, eventually you'll cave and own both, especially if you hang around here long.:biggrin1:

I talked to a person and they said that the best is softer than the super in most brushes that thay had felt, but said the super must get softer when wet or the more it is used. Anyone?????

I got moves like Jagger
I have a Berkeley in Best and a Tulip-2 2-band in Super. Both work well with creams, soft soaps or hard soaps. Soft brushes lather soaps just fine; they just might need a few more swirls when loading.

The Berkeley "feels" softer than the T2, but I think that's more to due with the T2 being a fair bit more dense. On my face, I can't really tell the difference as all I'm experiencing is gobs of creamy lather.

If you can get a super (either 2 or 3 band) at a price you're comfortable with, go for it. But to think you would be "settling" for something worse if you picked up a Simpsons Best is mistaken.

Great info. Thank you!!

If you are looking for a brush with soft tips but still scritch, a firm backbone, with a lot of hair (dense), great bloom, able to use with creams and soaps, holds water well - look at the Simpsons Chubby2 best or Chubby2 2band.

Difference?
Chubby2 2band has less bloom than the Chubby2 3band.
Chubby2 2band loads faster from soap.
Chubby2 2band will give you that scritch need on your face, and won't be as floppy as the Chubby2 3band (backbone difference)

If you want a softer floppy brush on your face, look at the 3band.

The chubby3 is just a monster. I'm a big guy with massive hands, and I don't think I would get the same lush enjoyment of lathering up my face with a Chubby 3.
Saying that, I would like to try a Chubby 3 - 2 band, but I'd probably use the Chubby2 2band more.

Jarrod at thesupershave.com did a comparison of the 3 Chubbys.
Chubby 2 is what I would call luxurious size, easy to hold, great dense hair, great lather.

(2 bands not shown, but you get the idea on size and width of of brush and handle - pre bloom)

To the OP: how would you like your brush to be?

Inquiring minds want to know!

It won't help much for me to tell you that I prefer 2-Band, but if you tell us what you like and what you are looking for in a brush, we can probably help you to get what you want.

Marco and DJH, I want my brush to be a great latherer w/ both hard soaps and creams (Ive been told that a super 3 band will not lather hard soaps. So, that narrows it down to a best or super2band.) I have a Simpson Special in Best, I like the feel, but wish the ends were a little softer. So, not sure which direction to go.

Current Simpson 2 band seems to have softer tips than both best or 3-band super as far as Simpson grades go... And will easily lather soaps well (but so does my Chubby in Super 3 Band as well - this is more a question of loft and density)...
Another alternative is either Rooney Heritage or Thäter 2 band... The latter arguably the most reliable combination of soft tips and good backbone... Bulb shape preferred...

I have the Simpson Special in Best and the Simpson Chubby 1 in 2 Band super. The special feels softer than the 2 Band when dry but once you get the 2band wet and lathering it just feels like a soft pillow gliding along your face. I love both of them!! If you want softer go with the 2 Band (which I feel aesthetically speaking is beautiful) but in my honest opinion the best is perfect for face lathering and will save you quite a bit in the process. Now that I have both to compare I will probably get my (next) Chubby 2 in best as its a perfectly fine grade of hair for my face, of course as always YMMV as we don't share the same face ;)

Thanks- that helps a lot. I have a bunch of shaving brushes and although my favourites are the 2-band models, a dense Simpson in Best or in 3-band Super will certainly get the job done for you as well. What size brush are you looking for, which style of handle do you like and what is roughly your budget?

My friend, the Super 3 band not only will lather hard soaps, but will also do an excellent job! If you like the feel of the Best and are only looking for softer tips, the Super 3 band should be your choice.

I do not have any Simpson in Best anymore as I found them too prickly.. however, attached are pictures of a Duke 3 in Super 3 band and in 2 band. The 3 band is denser and softer when DRY... when wet, however, the 2 band is much softer on the face... Also, the 3 band is a fan, the 2 band a bulb given a different face feel
