Best "Flight Safe" Razor

I've spent my whole life with an electric and never touched anything else until a month ago when I was bitten by the bug. I'm sure everyone knows the outcome and the disease I've been dealing with so I wont go into details.

My question is what does everyone fly with? I know you can check blades but I'm not willing to check a bag and pay $30 round trip just to have me DE with me. At the same time I'm not willing to use my electric again.

So with that said what should I be looking at? I heard the Bic Metal is good. Mach 3/Fusion?

I travel with a Bic Sensitive or something similar unless I'm on an extended trip in which case I'll buy DE blades at my destination.

Carry on a Bic Sensitive dispo, and your empty DE of choice. When you get to the destination, check the nearest drugstore for a pack of blades.

This description excludes loose blades, but allows things like mach 3 cartridges:
Razor-Type Blades - such as box cutters, utility knives, razor blades not in a cartridge, but excluding safety razors.
The "exludes safety razors" does not apply to DE blades. DE and SE blades are "no fly" items that must be checked.

This site seems to suggest that safety razor blades are allowed in carry-on

I hadn't personally come to a conclusion about the rather ambiguous statement (the following types are not allowed as carry-on):
Razor-Type Blades - such as box cutters, utility knives, razor blades not in a cartridge, but excluding safety razors

Very odd indeed. I thought perhaps they meant the razor but not the blades were acceptable.

This seem to be an on going debate as it isn't very clear. Logically it would make sense to not allow them but it is the government we're talking about. I just sent an email to TSA asking the very question. I'll post the reply when/if I get it.

I'm going to face this in a couple of months time. Next flight I'll be travelling light so no checked luggage. I experimented with a bic sensitive, a palmolive shave stick and one of my cheap shaving brushes. Not the best shave ever but pretty damn good all the same. I wouldn't try using a bic more than once or twice however. Remember you can't take more than 100ml of fluid, hence the shave stick.

(I swear one of these days we're all going to be strip searched before getting on a plane.)

I agree, If you know where you are staying, Just mail an letter to yourself with a blade or 2 in it. Just be sure to protect the blade, I would think that a old cardboard blade box would work just fine. Costs you a stamp and envelope. If you are travelling for work, use their stamp and envelope, as it is business related.

+1 - I just sent an email too. They may think its a movement...

Guys, I'm not being rude, but this has been asked and answered a gazillion times. In fact, Soapbox even has the answer in his sig because it come up so much.

gone down south

When you come right down to, who here actually believes there's any chance in hell the TSA would let you take a razor blade on board a plane in this day and age? Debate the rationality of their approach all you want, they've made themselves pretty clear.

Hi all,
As the guideline suggested:

Cartridge Razor = Yes, limited to _ pieces
Double Edge Razor = Yes (no blades)
Double Edge Blades = No
Straight Razor = No

Few may have got thru with double edge blades and razor, but it is an exception.
Also, there will be a risk to lose your DE razor if they decide to confiscate them....Because they cannot differentiate between a straight and double edge razor. To be fair to them, they probably haven't seen one.

Decide whats best for you.

Regards,

I think we might be getting a little off topic. My question was really what does everyone use when you need to fly. I like the idea of mailing a couple blades but sometime that's not an option.

Looks like we have a couple Bic Sensitive's. Anyone else have a preference?

The only times I've flown after taking up wetshaving has been with checked luggage, so I always had a DE. That being said, if I didn't want to check any bags I would probably take a Sensor Exel or something.
