Ok guys, I took a flyer on this weck as the razor was in otherwise pretty pristine shape so here goes, what the hell are the odds of my getting the "CYSTO" name tags scratched on the cap diminished? What product would you roll the dice with? They don't seem to go through to whatever the base metal is at least. Anyway, I am still stoked as it seems a lot of razor for $11.

A buffing wheel with a white polishing compound is supposed to take scratches out of chrome and nickel..

"To remove scratches from chrome you are going to need: a chrome polish, a fine type of steel wool, and a buffer towel. You are going to apply the cleaner and is a soft circular motion rub with the wool. When done whip to a shine with the buffer towel."

Is that my other option?

Yeah, these were branded with a few different names. Weck, Adams, etc.... It's IMO one of the better looking DEs provided some fool doesn't deface it with a paper clip or we was used.

Weck, now Pilling-Weck is a surgical instrument company. This razor was probably used for surgical preps in this case in the cysto (urology) suite.

Ah-ha!!! I was trying to figure out what name started with cysto lol. Like cystoyokivitch or something. I wonder if it would be worth more with the scratched in name... Maybe to a medical instrument collector.

I used to work in an operating room and we'd always do crazy stuff like scratch our service name on instruments so another team wouldn't borrow (steal) them. Probably won't increase the value.

I'll post some macros of the cap when it arrives. Provided it is not truly awful I will give reducing them a shot. At least if I like it I see enough of these come up from time to time (adams anyway)with ok heads and shot handles for dirt cheap to cannibalize one at some point.

Got it on friday. The scratches seem quite superficial, actually. For the record, it shaves very very well. It doesn't feel aggressive but it sure seems to take more hair down faster than my tech. My only word of warning for anyone buying one of these is that the handle is hollow and the threading in the handle is not sealed at the bottom so it is basically an open tube with one plugged end so you have to be mindful of moisture. It is honestly a good candidate to have the handle filled in with some other material to add some weight. Handle is awesome though, that xmas tree shape the the best possible handle for a de imo.

I've been giving this razor more shots lately. I have to say as long as you pay attention to what you're doing you can get incredibly smooth shaves with this. It's really really good.

Sounds like a candidate for a Cooncatbob custom handle. :thumbup1:

Why, you'd think they would have run it through an autoclave or something all those years ago.... I gave that thing a savage cleaning/sterilization before I used it. Seriously, if you see one, get it... It is really really good.

Actually the handle is beautiful in terms of design. The cone shape imo is the ideal shape for a razor handle. does he load handles and plug them off?

I think Bob can make just about any handle you want. I believe he usually uses solid bar stock, but I could be wrong. E-mail or PM him to discuss.
