Best brush for 70 or less

I know this has probably been asked to death, so if someone just wants to point me to a link, that would be great. I tried searching but havnt found what Im looking for. If I could get one for less than 70 that would be even better. Im just looking for the best one I can get for that money and know very little about them. I have been using a 4 dollar boar brush for 2 years and a slightly higher quality boar for 3-4 before that....quite honestly, it doesnt do that great.

If you are willing to go up to $75, you can get excellent size 1 Rooneys in Silvertip.

I wouldn't rule out some of the $15-$20 boar brushes, or even going up a little more for a nice boar brush which might close to $30. Boars can be good, if not great and will be a huge difference form your $4 one.

As far as badger brushes, perhaps some of the Simpsons in Best would be a good buy and definitely under $75. The Special, CASE a couple others in there.

If you could tell us something about why you didn't like the $4 that might help us get you in the ball park. There are a lot of brushes out there.

I love the 3/1 Rooney in Pure from Vintage Blades. at $40, im not sure you'll beat it as long as you like a little bit of scrubbiness from your brush. if it's soft tips you want bump up your minimum to that $75 mark and pick up the super.

This might be a bit DIY but I'm getting into restoring vintage brushes at the moment. You could buy an old handle that you like the look of second hand and do it up. Then get a top quality knot from TGN or somewhere similar for around $20 - $30 and build it yourself. Depending on your skills you could end up with a brush that will rival the best brands in shave quality and will be personal and customised to be exactly your style. You will also get a feeling of satisfaction every time you use it because you have built it with your own little hands. :thumbup1:

Simpsons Case for the win.

Large enough to use daily but also comes with a travel tube
Great with Soaps and Creams
Great on the face or in a bowl

AND...

Only $56 shipped from thesuperiorshave.com

Its cheap feeling, but more importantly, its stiff and coarse. It lathers only marginally well. I use proraso and if I lather first and then shave, it won't lather much at all after that without putting MORE cream on and that seems like a waste.

So, how do I go about finding a good handle on ebay? I like the idea of making a brush as good as the Rooney, except for cheaper. How do you 'glue' the knot into the handle?

I don't think the knots Tony uses are as good as in something like a Simpsons or Rooney in the 70 dollar price range. I know I am not alone in this thinking either.

TGN knots are good knots that will get the job done. The Simpson Case is a heck of a deal.

By the time you buy a decent knot which is about 22-25 shipped. Find a handle on ebay which is probably going to run 6-15 dollars shipped and the epoxy you almost have enough for a Simpsons Case.

I have also cracked 2 handles trying to get old knot out.
