Best Bevel Setter

Thank you for all your suggestions, I think I might go with the DMT so it can also double as a lapping stone if I ever decide to scrap honing on film.

DMT 325 for lapping. 1200 and you will likely ruin it. Bevel setter for me is dmt 1200. Ive used the king and norton 1ks, the king was very thirsty as was the norton although not as much. I love the dmt for no lapping, just break it in with a metal screwdriver shank.

I have a 1.2k DMT, but I find it to be too harsh and inconsistent.

I prefer using a stone - the ones I use most often are the 1k Chosera and a Botan Toishi.

Another Chosera 1K user here, it's fast, consistent and doesn't wear easily. It leaves a very fine and shallow scratch pattern that's easily wiped out on whatever next stage you're using.
Only thing to remember when using the chosera is after use to SLOWLY let it dry, drying out to fast (near a heater in warm dry air) can cause hairline cracks. All Naniwa's swell and shrink a little with water and the chosera 1k being a little brittle by nature does not like being dried to fast.
Lapping it out and wrapping it in a microfiber cloth after use completely solved the problem for me, I was lucky the cracks were only at the surface.
It's not a thirsty stone but it does soak up a little water when dry so I usually soak it for a couple of minutes before use.

Depends on what needs to be done.

Chips or frowns-DMT 326

No bevel to speak of DMT 600

JNS 1K stone followed by Botan slurry on a large botan, or botan slurry on awasedo
