What's new

Best bang for the buck military brush?

I can vouch for the Kents. However, retail is pricey. Look for gbkent store on eBay. I picked up two with white bristles for under forty dollars shipped from UK.

Cheers, Todd

I've owned those $5 brushes and I've owned the Kent ... there is no comparison. The Kent is really well made, feels good in your hand and on the scalp. The Kent is well worth the extra money ... and its worth the wait to have it shipped from overseas.

I think I got 2 of them for $45 shipped back in December. It took about 5 weeks to arrive because of Xmas traffic and overseas slowness.
I thought I was getting one black and one white bristle, but I actually wound up with 2 blacks.

I'd offer to sell you my extra black one (its still NIB) but I see you're in Canada, and I'm afraid the cross-border shipping would kill the deal. You can probably get it cheaper just by ordering straight from the GBKent store on eBay. That's where I got mine.

BTW, you ought to get one of the Kent brush-cleaning tools at the same time. I got mine from Amazon. Any brush will get clogged up with hair after a few uses and having the proper tool to clean it up will make it like new again.

I looked at them, still a bit pricey considering some people have complained about a whole bushel of hair coming out after first use and they come with "cosmetic" defects

Shipping literally kills almost every deal for canadians... I looked at the store, did you guys have any issues with your brushes?

I've heard those rumors about the eBay store being an outlet for factory seconds and cosmetically damaged brushes ... if there is any defect in my brushes, I can't find it. And others that have ordered from the GBKent eBay shop have reported the same thing.

The only complaint I have about the items I got is the box announces the inclusion of a leaflet on brush maintenance, but I couldn't find it in either of the two boxes I received. This is really, really minor point. Just get one of those brush-cleaning tools and the "how-to" part will be self-evident.

I bought a military style brush from Sally's, and it has very little backbone, and really doesn't work very well when my hair has grown out a bit after having buzzed it off.

+1 to all of that. I'll be darned if I can find any defect in the brush I bought from gbkent on ebay, my box also came without the leaflet but lets be serious it's not like it's rocket science to clean the brush.

I've got a couple Acca Kappa brushes (about $32 each) and I like them pretty well. Especially the stiffer, black bristle one. The Acca Kappa brushes look nice for the money IMO. I've never tried a Kent though.

I agree with dpm802. If my brushes have defects I am not seeing them. Bristle loss? Well, anything made by man can and will be defective but this is the first time I have even heard this about the Kent seconds at their eBay store. Again, i use the term seconds with in the loosest of context. I have lost no bristles from my set.
