Best balms

I'd like to see what people recommend for the best non-alcoholic balms that are commonly available at local retailers (please don't recommend anything that has to be ordered over the internet). My favorite is Brut balm, but it's getting very difficult to find, and I've even heard that may be because it has, or is going to be discontinued. If this is true, I'll have to find something to replace it with.

If it has to be able to be purchased at a local retailer, I'd recommend going over to Bath & Body Works and see it any of their Bigelow Elixir line of after shave balm scents suit you.

It's pretty good stuff, with Aloe & Witch Hazel in it.

The Nivea stuff is excellent too, and available for $5-6 at Walmart

However, I DID SEE Brut aftershave Balm for sale at Drugstore.com today for $5.99 :biggrin1:

I also found the Brut at Rite-Aid the other day, but it used to be available at CVS and Walgreens too, but they haven't had it lately. Someone else in this forum said they read somewhere that it was being discontinued, but I haven't been able to verify that. It would explain its deminishing availability lately though.

I have one of the C.O. Bigelow's balms (red bottle) I picked up at B&BW. It's not bad, but IMO, it's not as good as the Brut. I've also got some of the Nevia and it's pretty decent too, but again, not as good as the Brut. So far, the Brut's been the most soothing balm I've tried. Plus to me, it smells the best.

On the days that I really cut myself up I use Nivea Sensitive in the milk colored bottle. I am familiar with the Bigelow elixers as well. The Bath and Bodyworks by me only stocks the red elixer which is a little to stong for me, but consider trying the others and let me know what you think.

The C.O. Bigelow #1200 ASB is very good. $5 more than the other C.O. Bigelow ASB's (red, blue, green, black, white) but worth it. If your local Bath and Body Works carries it as other posters have mentioned.

You may want to try your local L'Occitane or Caswell Massey. CM carries some Musgo products.

Today I'm wearing C.O. Bigelow Bay Rum balm (#1401) for the first time. The scent is a little heavy, but I'm liking it. Great performance - nice smooth skin, not at all greasy.

I would be helpful if we knew which country you lived in, as the availability of ASBs will be quite different. Based on the contents of the thread thus far it seems you are based in the US?

I bought the Bigelow Blue bottle balm on a guess and have been very happy with it. It's pretty rich and helpful with dry skin or burn. The scent is strong, but not overpowering. I usually shave the night before and apply it then. The next morning I'll do a 2 min touch up in case I missed anything and simply towel off (no more ASB). By that time the smell from the night before is pretty much gone, though the faintest hint remains of it. It's gentle and I like it.

Nivea Extra Soothing
Loreal Comfort Max (has SPF protection)
CO Bigelow #1200 (@ Bath & Bodyworks)
Neutrogena Triple Protect (has SPF protection)

these are my favorites I could have in my grubby mits within 15 minutes from home if I needed.. though there are rumors that the Nivea formula changed with the new bottle design, I have yet to test this out myself..

I've never seen the white.

Proraso aftershave balm in glass bottle.
Simply excellent.
I've still got a bottle that I purchased back when Target was clearing the line out. I probably should reach for it more often.

I have the B&BW's Red and Black ASBs as mentioned in the posts above. Those two were my favorite scents at the time. I will probably go back and revisit the Blue and Green versions.

As for the OP he he doesn't require his balm to be scented, I find the J/A/S/O/N/S WitchVera to be the most soothing of all of the balms I've tried.

The white may only be available in the cologne, body wash and body lotion. I didn't see the white ASB on the Bigelow website. I saw the collection in a B&BW's store one time, thought they had a ASB with it, maybe not. My mistake.
