Best aftershave balm is a skin lotion! Pen-Kera

Since joining this group a little over a month ago, I've read a lot and have purchased a number of aftershave balms to use for winter shaving. The air gets dry here in Wisconsin. I have tried Nivea Sensitive skin, C&E aftershave balm, and Burt's Bees aftershave balms. These are fine balms, but the best balm I have ever used is actually an unscented body lotion called Pen-Kera. This stuff was recommended to my wife over 20 years ago by her dermatologist. I have used it as a winter aftershave lotion for almost the same amount of years. It is non-greasy, and your skin really soaks this stuff up. As I said, it is unscented, so it's fine to use before using your favorite AS splash or cologne. I am going to experiment adding some of my favorite scents to it. As far as balms go, it's a lot cheaper than most. Our local mom and pop pharmacy keeps a bottle in stock just for my wife. I have never seen it on the shelf anywhere, unless you special order it. You can get it online. Just Google it. An 8oz. bottle is around $11-13. A little goes a long way. I did a search on all of the forums on B&B, and could not find one reference to this product. I do not think you will be disappointed if you try this, and I would be remiss to not tell fellow shavers about this great product. I sound like a circus barker, but this stuff is great. If you live in Madison, WI you can get it at Mallatt's on Monroe St.

I am curious to know what others think after they try it.

I agree that sometimes a good moisturizer is superior to any aftershave balm. I use JASON 84% aloe vera moisturizer and it is lightweight and barely scented, a small amount goes a long way, doesnt sting ever and heals quickly.

my favorite ASB's are Cerave, Unrefined Shea butter, and grapeseed or jojoba oil. I mix them up from time to time.

All do a better job than shaving balms
