Berkeley Variable Pitch safety razor

I finally got myself a NOS Berkely variable pitch safety razor which I have been after for a while. Has anyone here ever given a Berkely a go? I am a little hesitant to try it out I see there are small grooves built into the safety bar and am thinking these will tug the whiskers.

B&B Brian/Blue-eyedson had one few years ago. I Emailed him few days ago, he is busy doing other things but maybe you can ask him.

Berkeley custom razor shaver was made by Consolidated Razor Blade Co. Inc. of Jersey City. According to Waits Compendium they came in dark red, or white.

I've got one, and it works perfectly well. It's a little bit cumbersome to work with, though, so I don't find myself wanting to use it on any kind of regular basis. I don't really see how the little teeth on the guard bars could tug anything, but they do give you some of the benefit of an open-comb razor where the guard doesn't clear most of the lather before the blade gets there.

What the hell is this thing? An electrical blade razor?

It's just an adjustable razor with a really fat handle that's mostly hollow.
