What's new

Belgian company tried to reinvent the wheel of shaving, but...

Hi,

Today I woke up with lots of references in blogs and other news sites to a company called Razwar (www.razwar.com) Everyone was so excited because they were trying to break the Gillette-Wilkinson monopoly over shaving products, with new and exciting stuff. So what was all that about?

The same cartridge razors that we know and see in the supermarket every day, with funky design and with low price. They advertise heavily that their cartridges cost 1 euro each, as opposed to the 2 euro and half of gillette. I laugh at it. If they really try to market their product as "low cost", I am tempted to send my curriculum to them, so I can work ad an advisor and tell them about the benefits of a 10 CENTS double edge blade and what truly represents a low cost shave...

But that brings me to another subject: They are selling shaving stuff, they are not Gillette, they are not Wilkinson and yet they have appeared on countless news sites (at least here in Europe). All thanks to the fact that they offer one of their sets for free (razor + 1 blade) I suppose you just have to pay shipping. All what was needed was an aggressive marketing idea! People who orders stuff from them don't seem to care if it's tri-blade or if it vibrates. They seem to be attracted to the fact that it's low cost... so I really miss that some DE company would pull out a plan showing that there is nothing more low cost than classic shaving...

PD: I think that the offer of free shaving set applies only within europe, but I am not entirely sure.

I've been thinking about that. If e.g. EJ or Merkur or any other were to aggressively market DE razors and blades I figured that DE blades will sell more and perhaps become cheaper and new actors will appear on the market. That means a greater choice of blades and razors for us!

However, since blades are so cheap already, I don't think any company will give away free razors... How will they then make money? Gillette makes money on their cartridges ONLY, so the same money making model does not apply to this thing of ours..

Imho this new company is interesting simply because it opens the eyes of the people who are buying mach3/mach5. It shows them that you don't need to buy these ultra expensive blades to have a good shave, and cheaper solutions are there, and they shave as good as these expensive things.

DE shaving is not for everyone, it is only a thing for "shaving-geek" guys like us :)blink:), so there is a place for a company like this.

For us DE shavers, there are quite interesting products in their lineup: a natural shaving soap (made by "sa Savonneries Bruxelloises", making soaps since 1926), their natural shaving oil and also their balm (I'll post a review of their soap that I bought a few days back).

For the little story, It is strangely trough them that I discovered badgerandblade.com, because I took interest in shaving and wanted "more"...

Regarding their blades, they're Personna blades (tri-flexxx adaptable to sensor handle, and M5 magnum).

their shaving soap doens't sound too bad. honestly it looks like they said "hey instead of marking these up and making 73% profit let's try shooting for a 20% profit margin."

example being if i go out and buy a pair of nikes. it costs $100. most of that cost goes paying MJ and 'bron 'bron. and 10 cents goes to manufacturing costs (5 for the child labor and 5 for the materials).

I visited the site and I noticed almost immediately that the 3-blade cartridges they sell are excactly the same as the cartridges sold in the discount supermarket Aldi which has shops in every major city and village.
There they cost 12 for €3,5.
How long before others will notice as well, spread the words and Razwar will be out of business?
