Beginner Strop?

Okay, I'm looking at getting my first straight -gulp- and I'll need a strop. I've already seen the Rup Filly mentioned and it seems like a decent idea. A $20 beginner strop seems to make sense in case you cut it or mess it up, being a newbie.

Any other thoughts for a first strop? Figured this would be a good place to ask.

Do I need to go ahead and step up to something that is Linen or cotton, too ?

Forgive me if I'm asking poorly thought-out questions, but I've started my research but haven't gotten REALLY into it due to time constraints.

Thanks for any input, gents.

If Tony's open for business, I recommend a cotton/leather combo strop + his practice strop. Otherwise, the Filly is a great deal if your not sure about sticking with straights.

The Perfect Edge has a note on their website that they'll put together a Beginner's Kit. I contacted them a while back and it sounded like they would sell the strop separately, if you didn't want the razor. If you're interested, I'd contact them.

A flat leather belt from a $2 shop will work as good or better than a cheep starter strop and it dosn`t matter how many you bugger in the process of learning
kind regards Peter
