What's new

Been using ARKO since I was a baby - just didn't know it!

I was at my Mom & Dad's over Father's Day, and used the hand soap in the bathroom. It was Ivory. I took a deep whiff, and immediately it hit me - it smells EXACTLY like my new ARKO shave stick, except Ivory is a little lighter on the scent. Then it hit me this morning while I was lathering the ARKO - I've been using a soap that smells just like ARKO my whole life - Mom NEVER bought anything different!

Well, there had been a 28-year hiatus until last month when I got my first package of ARKO shave sticks. That hiatus was caused by SWMBO, whose mother bought Caress for the family. ARKO is now so connected to Ivory soap in my mind, that every time I shave with it, it brings up unbelievable trips down memory lane. And, well, I get a great shave, of course!

Anybody else grow up with Ivory soap and experience the same thing using ARKO?

Been a long time since I used Ivory, since I really can't stand it. But I don't remember Ivory having a lemon pledge-esque sent, which I definitely get from Arko. While I'm not crazy about sniffing arko right from the stick, on my face it isn't that strong.

I've said here before that I just don't get the urinal puck comments. So much so that I wonder if folks are just making them in gest ... or whether they've ever smelled just plain, old fashioned, unperfumed soap. After reading all the Arko comments I bought a stick. Trusting my wife's nose more than mine, I asked her what it smelled liked. He reply was "soap".

I don't get the controversy over the scent, either. I've smelled a lot worse. However, I know that certain scents can bring about negative reactions from people so I guess that's it. The first time I smelled Arko I immediately thought of Ivory Soap; it's just a little stronger right out of the tube.

I also get the scent of Ivory soap when I shave with Arko. It also brings back memories as Ivory was a very commonly used soap when I was a kid.

Still use Ivory as my bath soap. My father used it, me as a kid, teenager, adult, and now father. I haven't tried ARKO yet, but this might push me to give it a whirl!

Why not just shave with Ivory? Treat it like a stick and it will lather.

I think my grandpa more or less did this. When my grandma died (10 years after him), my dad asked if I wanted anything from around the house. I asked for anything shave related. Turned up 5 super speeds (apparently, my dad and uncles were uncreative and got him the same thing five fathers' days running), but no brushes. My dad thought grandpa just rubbed a bar of soap on his face, and that was that.
