Beautiful 2 Band

Well i have to say that there are some beautiful 2 band badgers going around lately. But, the question I have is this. Do you think all this 2 band is overkill? Are we expecting this dense 2 band hair in EVERY type of brush made? I myself prefer the 2 band, having a few Rooney Finests, and a few of the simpson brushes, but I still enjoy my 3 band brushes as well.

What happens when the source for the 2 band dries up? It seems a bit odd that Rooney was having sourcing problems, and now Simpson is putting 2 band super in every type of handle imaginable. I just saw a Duke 3 with 2 band. Im just as guilty as the next guy on overbuying this type of brush, but I figure I might as well get while the getting is good.

I just want to get some opinions on the seemingly endless supply of 2 band knots and every type of handle they are going into.

Two band, three band, best, pure. I would say that different types of hair become easier to source during different periods of time. If you like 2 band brushes, pick up a few while they are easily available and affordable.

"Got Shoes?"
Very good point Isaac. Which is why while organizing a proposed Group Buy for the Eagle G3 we just decided it was going to be in Best as there has been a glut (thankfully ) of two-banded hair.

Interesting idea. I can only hope some of these companies shrouded in mystery (*cough*Rooney*cough*) obey honest business practices and don't drive those beautiful badgers to extinction. I geuss it's probably like the meat industry: don't ask, don't tell :bored:

The thing I tend to think is: as more people get into this hobby, will the demand for badger in general become too great?

Although unintentional, all but one of my current daily brushes are two-band (Rooney 1/2 Finest, Rooney Stubby 1 & 2 Heritages, Vulfix Grosvenor LE) but I've tried to focus more on a brush's overall feel as it applies to my preferences - either by my own trial and error or by the feedback of fellow members.

My former Rooney Stubby 2 in 3-band Heritage hair was denser and had more backbone than any brush I've touched - but it wasn't right for me. But I've also owned and enjoyed many other great 3-band brushes and will likely buy more.

Maybe I've chosen wisely (or gotten lucky), but my current two-bands' mix of nice backbone, density and tips have the edge over equivalently sized three-band Supers or Bests I've owned.

Of course, tomorrow may bring us awesome one-band brushes and we'll simply start over!

The Chinese brush makers don't even consider 2 band to be their very best quality hair and neither do I. Don't get me wrong I love my Duke 3 two band but the demand for this type of hair is fairly recent and now supply has finally caught up. Our high end brushes may now feel less exclusive because of the glut, I'd get used to that.

Well I just jumped on the two-band bandwagon and am anxiously awaiting an emperor 2:thumbup1: Ashamedly also I just think the two-band looks better.

There has been a lot of 2-band here recently and I'm not sure that its all great. Not sure if the 2-band craze has had anything to do with Rooney switching its old Heritage hair to a 2-band, but I'm doubting it. If it did it's a shame. I'll miss the old 3-ban.

I got 4 brushes right now that are 2-band. I have a Rooney Finest, Rooney Heritage 2-band, and two Simpson 2-band brushes. I'm not totally sure if I like the two band for sure. I like the Rooney Finest the best as it definitely has a distinct feel and quality. They always feel better after a day of drying for some reason so I haven't been able to part with any yet. I must say cosmetically I love the two-band look!

I've actually been horribly spoiled by all these 2-band brushes, I'm even thinking of selling my prized Shavemacs... I can't help it, I just love brushes with tons of backbone and soft tips!

I'm going on a strict true 2-band diet for awhile to try and get a better feel on how well I like it. Rooney 3/1 Finest, Chubby 2, and Tulip 2 will be seeing quality time! :thumbup1:

I prefer the original bristle to the 2-band in the Rooney heritage line. Some brushes (PJ3 for example) seem to be better in a best. I certainly don't think 2-band is the only way to go - it looks good and the really good grades such as Rooney's finest are outstanding after some break in. I overall prefer my 3-band Plisson to the 2-band. I guess variety is the key. Ironically, the way 2-band is flooding the market, it will be some of the old 3-band brushes that command a premium price soon - they will actually seem kind of retro.

I would like to make the point that 2-Banded brushes come in different grades. One can get a two banded brush that is not the top of the grade. For instance the Rooney Heritage line offers 2-banded brushes but they are not the same as the "Finest" grade.

Take Care,
Richard

Does anyone know why Simpsons' two-band brushes are bulb-shaped rather than fan? Also, longer lofted, it seems.

Is this a conscious design decision by Vulfix or is it to do with the nature of their two-band hair? I've seen pics of Rooney Finests and they are fan shaped...

I agree with Richard, I own a few 2 bands, 3 bands Super and Best. The Simpson's Best is an excellent type of hair at least for us, "soapers"
I can't wait for the Eagle version

I have to agree with you on this. There seem to be varying degrees of density and feel regarding 2-band hair. I can't see buying 2-band for the sake of it being 2-band. The best feeling hair I've put on my face has been the old 3-band Heritage hair and DO1 hair. The only 2-band hair I've really enjoyed was Rooney Finest and at that I still like the Heritage 3-band more. That's just me, but my point is that "2-band" doesn't make it better, just different. They do look quite regal though.
