Beard intensity meter

This may sound a bit odd and I am asking from pure curiosity, but is there some sort of scale to rate beards based on thickness and toughness.

You know kind of like those what level pain are you experiencing.

I had this crazy idea of creating a chart that correlated facial hair toughness to what blades people with said level of toughness find most effective and comfortable.

I know a lot of that would be subjective, but could be useful for newbies like myself.

I'd be lying if I said I have never had a similar idea shoot through my dome. Maybe use a micrometer to measure the thickness of the hair and and try to correlate some data with the blade/razor used?

I've got a thick fast growing stiff bristled beard and in a moderate razor like my merkur 38c mild blades such as Persona Reds and Gillette Greens are next to useless. 4 passes will only get me looking presentable. However, in my experience pain is the result poor preparation; if I shave after a shower or 5 minutes of face washing with plenty of hot water I wont feel pain while shaving even if the blade I'm using is too mild to cope, any irritation will be the result of one too many passes.

Perhaps its better to not get super scientific. What if the member posted a picture of their beard say at 2-3 days growth and also included their blade choice and maybe the razor they generally use also. That way one can visualize a beard and potentially match to a specific blade options. Perhaps I am just reaching at air with this.

I thought everybody has bristles stronger than steel/copper wire, grows 3 inches per day and is packed in a 2000 hairs per sq. inch?

My beard is coarse and tough, but I find that a mild razor with a sharp blade is the way to go. It's like using a plane. If you've got highly figured hard wood, you don't want the plane set too deep or you'll just tear things up. Shallow cuts with a sharp blade provide the best results.

I am in the eight to ten category. I might be part boar.

Also this thread needs pics of various beard types, starting with Robin Williams.
