BBS? TLA's gone mad IMHO

I've been browsing this site for a while now, frequently the holy grail of shaves are refered to as BBS.

Ah... babies bum smooth I assumed.

It made sense to me... now though I see references to billiard balls?

What the Dicken's is going on?

that would be my guess, not having kids (maybe that makes a difference...?) id be a little uncomfortable describeing my face as bbs and explaining it as babys bum smooth outside of B&B.

In this age of scandals, pedophilia and sexual abuses of children, I guess that kind of expression's going to fall out of fashion quite rapidly.

I can't picture myself telling my wife: "Feel my face, this morning it's smooth as a 15-year old teenage girl butt !"

As you say, thinking that way, sounds horrible, but we usually say it in a "jocosely" way...

Yeah I think that is something that is most likely lost in translation...sounds a lot worse in English. Though that is just a guess.

Either way, I don't know how long ago I have heard of something being as "smooth as a baby's bottom" but I have been familiar with that phrase for years (and I'm only 23). I am quite okay with using that to refer to the awesome shave I get some days.

I'm French speaking and in French the expression that would be used is quite similar to the English: "doux comme de la peau de bébé" which translates as "smooth as a baby's skin". No butt there

fleshdunce is right, the Spanish expression translates badly in English. The cultural context that makes it understandable in Spanish get lost in the translation

I think smooth as a baby's bottom conveys how hairless I want my face to be but not the hardness. I use billiard ball smooth to show people my shave has left me without stubble and able hit an eight-ball into the corner pocket with my cheek. Then again that's just me.

I've heard the term "cue ball" used to describe bald guys for years.

Even in Spanish, that expression doesn't sound right to me.
